Communications Specialist, USAID Strengthening Democratic Governance (SDG) At Counterpart International


Counterpart is accepting CVs for a Communication Specialist for Activity Strengthening Democratic Governance / Strengthening Democratic Governance (SDG) funded by USAID in Honduras. The purpose of the Activity is to build systemic accountability and the response capacity of the Government of Honduras (GOH) to citizens, at the same time that civil society is strengthened to increase confidence, safeguard human rights, and encourage Hondurans to remain in their country and participate in their democracy. SDG’s first work order aims to 1) Improve effective governance capacity, transparency, accountability and response to citizenship by the institutions of the Government of Honduras; and 2) Provide location, learning,adaptation, monitoring and support in collecting information to implement activities for all SDG work orders and objectives.

Under the supervision of the head of Objective 3 / Leader of Component 2 of the Labor Order, the Communication Specialist will support the execution of the Activity communication strategy, directing the preparation of internal and external communication products on the project and its activities, as well as coordinating the compilation and consolidation of the contributions for the quarterly progress reports , technical reports and other information products.

The position of Communication Specialist is full-time based in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. It will coordinate the preparation of all the reports and communication products of the Activity corresponding to the activities with the civil society.

Responsibilities

  • Develop printed and digital communication materials for SDG Activity for internal and external audiences, including written and visual materials such as fact sheets, web articles, and infographics.
  • Direct the writing, coordination and consolidation of technical contributions for the writing of the reports and publications of the Activity.
  • Support the editing of reports and publications using results-focused language that highlights achievements and not just activities.
  • Lead the formatting, design, and production of graphic and audiovisual material for the preparation of communication products.
  • Manage the presence of Counterpart Honduras / SDG on the web and on social networks.
  • Work with the team to develop programmatic strategies for activities and events that are appropriate to the context (that is, relevant to trends in media consumption in Honduras, that respond to political sensitivities, etc.).
  • Organize and coordinate events, such as press conferences, launches, acts of social dialogue and promotional activities, and collaborate with various teams to guarantee the perfect execution of events.
  • Attend events and program activities to take photos and prepare reports and articles on the Activity.
  • Support the development of discussion topics, speeches and presentations for events and activities.
  • Develop strategies and propose communication products and innovative improvements to the communication strategy, as appropriate.
  • Ensure compliance with the USAID Markup and Signaling Plan for the SDG program and the communication strategy in all Counterpart activities for SDG Activity.

Qualifications

  • University degree in communication, journalism, international development, international relations, political science, creative writing or relevant field.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience related to the area of communication, such as reporting and programmatic articles, advertising or marketing, etc., including the design of campaigns and communication products.
  • Experience in developing formats for reports, information sheets and visual graphic products.
  • Experience in development projects financed by international donors, preferably USAID.
  • Experience in developing success stories or interests in international development initiatives.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work well as a team and individually under little supervision.
  • Knowledge of oral and written communication in the English language will be valued.
