Job Overview/Summary:

The Cultural Orientation Coordinator will implement a comprehensive cultural orientation program for newly-arrived refugees in Dallas. The incumbent will deliver and develop programs that assist refugees and asylees in better understanding topics as diverse as health, financial management, immigration, transportation, education, childcare, and so forth in order to aid them in their journey towards self-sufficiency and community integration. Reports to the Resettlement Manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver or facilitate all cultural orientation training sessions.
  • Coordinate a cultural orientation program to ensure the availability of regular training instruction sessions on core topics such as health, employment, transportation, etc.
  • Monitor program performance on an ongoing basis. Conduct pre- and post-orientation assessments to determine relevance and effectiveness of training programs.
  • Track clients’ attendance of CO sessions and document their participation in accordance with the Cooperative Agreement and IRC guidelines.
  • Assess the cultural orientation needs of newly-arrived refugees and asylees on an on-going basis through the use of surveys, observation, focus groups, and other needs assessment techniques in order to develop focused, relevant training materials that assist clients in achieving self-sufficiency.
  • Evaluate external training resources and partners for potential inclusion in IRC’s Cultural Orientation training workshops.
  • Assess, design, develop, and update training materials such as training schedules, agendas, guides, handouts, case studies, role-plays, visual presentations and so forth for use in cultural orientation training workshops.
  • Maintain annual training plan detailing course offerings, objectives, and evaluation methodologies.
  • Perform job-related tasks as assigned

Job Requirements:

  • Experience delivering, designing, and/or developing training presentations, preferably in a multicultural context.
  • Strong writing and editing skills, specifically in developing print and visual training materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to monitor, evaluate and adjust programming for client needs.
  • Previous experience or demonstrated interest in resettlement and refugee/asylee issues.
  • Outstanding presentation and facilitation skills in traditional and non-traditional training situations.
  • Excellent computer skills: MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively as a team member in a multicultural environment.
  • Fluent in English, both spoken and written; bilingual ability in one of the predominant languages of the local client base is desired.

  • Standard office work environment. Occasional need for work outside of traditional business hours. Ability to lift 25-30 lbs.
  • A combination of standard office environment, remote work, and ‘field’ time within the service delivery area to perform the above outlined responsibilities.
  • Occasional domestic (non-local) travel required; up to 10%.
  • May require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
