Organizational framework

The main objective of FAO country offices, headed by the FAO Representative, is to cooperate with governments in policy development, programs and projects to achieve food security and reduce hunger and malnutrition, help develop the agricultural, fisheries, forestry sectors, and use their environmental and natural resources in a sustainable way.

Hierarchical dependency

It will work under the administrative supervision of the Officer in Charge of FAO Representation in Uruguay, in coordination and collaboration with the OPYPA technical team -referrer for the Bioeconomy Strategy and the National Strategy for Circular Economy-, and the benchmark designated by FAO with the final validation of the OPYPA-MGAP Directorate.

Field of specialization

This work aims to generate key products to advance towards updating the Bioeconomy Strategy and preparing the Action Plan 2023-2025.

The ( the ) bioeconomy specialist, will contribute to the preparation of a document (, being internal and / or external ), based on the strategic axes and production complexes that are considered key to the development and promotion of the bioeconomy.

Tasks and responsibilities

  •  Review new strategies, lines of action, policies, programs and projects promoted at the national level that may affect the Bioeconomy Strategy.
  •  Adapt the text of the Strategy based on what is relieved.
  •  Organize bilateral workshops and meetings to collect inputs and validate the suggested adjustments and support OPYPA-MGAP or FAO in the publication of the adjusted document.
  •  Carry out a review of the state of the art in relation to the use of bioinsum in the agricultural sector as a transversal element of the Bioeconomy Strategy, including: definitions of bioinsumptions, implications for sustainability and circularity, national, regional and international regulations and policies for its promotion, barriers and opportunities for its incorporation into national agricultural production.
  •  Identify priority actions for the period 2023-2025 based on consultations and workshops with key actors for the strategic axes and prioritized production complexes. Consolidate these actions in the publication of a document ( internal and / or external ) of the Action Plan 2023-2025, with an emphasis on the promotion and use of bioinsum in the agricultural sector.

THE CANDIDATES WILL BE EVALUED IN ARRANGE TO THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA:

Minimum requirements

  •  Undergraduate degree in Agricultural Sciences, Economic Sciences, Biological and / or Biochemical Sciences, or related areas.
  •  Minimum 5 years of experience in the agricultural sector, public policies and / or strategic planning.
  •  Practical knowledge of Spanish ( level C ) and limited knowledge of the English language ( level B ).
  •  Uruguayan national or foreigner with permanent residence.
