Base Driver: Apure, Venezuela At Doctors of the World


Doctors of the World Civil Association ( hereinafter MdM ) is implementing various activities to help strengthen local health institutions and organizations that serve populations in a condition of greater vulnerability in Venezuela.

The focus of our activities in Venezuela

MDM has been addressing humanitarian needs in Venezuela since 2019. The organization focuses on an integrated approach to health, nutrition, and protection of mental and psychosocial health ( MHPSS ). MDM coordinates its programs within the humanitarian cluster system and works collaboratively with national and international NGOs. The projects are implemented in highly populated vulnerable urban areas, as well as in rural and indigenous communities with difficult access. The organization is growing and expanding its base of donors, intervention sectors and implementation areas, with the aim of improving the quality of its programming.

General objective

Under the direct supervision of the base Logista at the headquarters of San Fernando de Apure, Apure State Venezuela, the main objective of the driver/a is to carry out the tasks assigned for the mobilization of project personnel and authorized goods, guaranteeing that the assigned vehicles are in good technical and safety conditions, respecting the country’s traffic regulations and the World Doctors safety regulations ( hereinafter MdM ).

Tasks and responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the base logger, the driver has within his functions:

  • Transfer staff in and out of town, based on planning field activities.
  • Check daily the technical conditions of the vehicle ( condition of the tires, oil, fuel, brakes, spare parts, etc. ), making sure that the vehicle is always in good condition.
  • Guarantee the safety of the passengers of the vehicle driving prudently, respecting the speed limits and the country’s traffic regulations, as well as the MdM regulations, in order to avoid traffic accidents.
  • Keep vehicle documentation and driving license in effect.
  • Make sure that all passengers/thus have in order all the necessary documents before traveling and that non-MdM personnel sign disclaimers before using the vehicle.
  • Inform your direct superior of any incident that affects the transport of goods or passengers .
  • Know how to use the media, know the emergency call number and communicate with the base according to the MDM communications policy, to report the position of the driver/a and any potential consequences.
  • Keep track of mileage traveled and fuel consumed.
  • Replace fuel under indications and with prior logistics authorization.
  • Be responsible for communication with the base, if necessary.
  • Be aware of security and context and communicate the identified risks as soon as possible.
  • Report road, contextual and vehicle conditions upon arrival from the field.
  • Know and respect the safety regulations associated with vehicle circulation, specifically those related to customs, checkpoint and road controls. Make sure that all passengers know and respect safety regulations.
  • Check every day that all the essential safety elements and equipment listed in the MdM procedure manual are in the vehicle and function properly.
  • Inform your logistics supervisor without delay of any failure in the vehicle or any personal condition that could put the mission at risk.
  • Monitor the vehicle and the merchandise transported in it during service.
  • Perform periodic cleaning of the vehicle and maintain hygiene conditions during the shift, delivering the guard with the vehicle previously clean.
  • Manage confidentiality about information of a specific nature of the work of MDM

Logistical support

If required by the Logistics Department, support the study of suppliers, requests for quotes, as well as communication with suppliers.

Any other work inherent or related to your position and the work you are performing, provided it is compatible with your strength, aptitudes, status or condition, and that they are of the same gender as those that form the object of the activity to which MdM is dedicated.

Requirements:

  • Driving license
  • Minimum experience of 1 year in a similar position
  • Good Knowledge of Ground Traffic Standards
  • Good knowledge of rural roads
  • Spanish language proficiency

  • Compliance with the standards described by the General Regulations for Data Protection, the confidentiality of the information and personal data of the local partners, as well as all the other counterparts involved in the implementation of the MDM programs.
