Job Description

Still I Rise, an international NGO that operates humanitarian and educational projects for refugee children and teenagers, is looking for an Arts teacher to join its current staff within the Syria Program in Al-DanaSyria. The selected person will be responsible for running a broad variety of creative classes, chiefly focused on visual and performing arts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, deliver and facilitate dynamic, active, and creative visual and performative arts lessons for classes of students aged 10-15. Create enhanced opportunities for real-life applications of concepts using available resources, collaboration strategies and project based learning
  • Review and monitor the progress of all students, provide timely and specific feedback and identify their individual learning needs. Differentiate instruction to meet those needs of the students, providing extra support to those students who are below grade level
  • Sensitively and appropriately provide pastoral care to our students from disadvantaged backgrounds. Handle urgent situations with consummate professionalism and in accordance with our Discipline Policy and Safeguarding Policy, utilizing the school’s support network as necessary
  • Conduct regular formative and summative assessments, recording and reporting grades and performance
  • Attend and participate in regular professional development activities
  • Design and implement classroom-level initiatives which target other educational goals of the center
  • Teach scheduled classes and be available to cover other teaching duties as required
  • Collect and share ‘success stories’ profiling the achievements of our students
  • Support the Education Officer in administrative duties as required
  • Planning and implementing extracurricular activities, such as creative days or school parties
  • Supporting the development of reading across the school and taking responsibility for library sessions
  • Supporting with accompanying Ma’an students to the gym and supervising sport sessions during the school day
  • Carrying out other relevant duties as requested (such as supporting other colleagues, covering classes, carrying out emergency tasks.)

Essential Skills & Requirements:

  • At least two years experience teaching
  • Residence in Al Dana or in the surrounding areas
  • CV in English
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Time management skills and organizational skills
  • Commitment and willingness to work in a challenging and changing environment.

Desirable skills:

  • Working proficiency of the English language, both written and oral
  • Experience teaching in non-formal education
  • Experience working for an international NGO
