Duties andResponsibilities

The Secretary-General is committed to zero tolerance and organizational action to address racism and racial discrimination and the equal treatment and full inclusion of all United Nations personnel in the work of the Organization. He has therefore launched a Strategic Action Plan on Addressing Racism and Promoting Dignity for All in the United Nations Secretariat (hereafter the “strategic action plan”) to tackle this abhorrent behaviour. This consultancy is located in the Strategic Talent Management Service (STMS) in the Global Strategy and Policy Division (GSPD) of the Office of Human Resources (OHR), Department of Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance (DMSPC). The consultant will report to the HR officer in ODS. ODS, having the mandate to provide organizational-wide capacity building and learning programmes targeting all personnel across the Organization, plays a key role in implementing a wide breadth of strategic action plan recommendations for learning proposed to shift the culture, policies, accountability mechanism, and practices of the UN Secretariat to address racism and racial discrimination and augment racial diversity and inclusion. Within the limits of delegated authority, the consultant will be responsible for the following duties: In collaboration the Anti-Racism learning team, Staff Counsellors Office and other panelist provide subject matter expertise and contribute to online seminars (webinars) dedicated to teaching counsellors and mental health professionals at the United Nations about race, racism, and anti-racism work and mental health and well-being. This includes: – Create content materials, including content scripts and presentation – Deliver expert-level contribution towards a pilot webinar, and produce lessons learned, including suggestions for similar training going forward. The topics covered by the consultant may include (i) the application of anti-racism work to counselling and other mental health-related initiatives, (ii) implementation of mental health policies and practices around real cases, (iii) leading conversation around racism, and anti-racism within an organization and co-creating resolutions regarding racial trauma and (iv) professional development in the areas of equity and anti-racism work and mental health and well-being for a range of personnel within an organization.

Qualifications/special skillsAn advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in psychiatry, psychology and/or clinical research and/or social work, or in critical race theory, sociology, or another closely related field is required. A first-level university degree (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in the specified fields of studies with two additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. A minimum of five years of experience working in the field of anti-racism including application of anti-racism work to counselling and other mental health-related initiatives is required. Experience with practicing mental health, including implementing mental health policies and practices around real cases, working with a diverse, global clientele is required. Experience leading conversations around racism, and anti-racism within an organization and co-creating resolutions regarding racial trauma is required. Experience building capacity / professional development in the areas of equity and anti-racism work and mental health and well-being for a range of personnel within an organization is desirable. Experience facilitating organizational change in relation to anti-racism work is desirable. Experience coordinating and liaising with various departments, working independently and as a team is desirable.
