Agricultural Training Consultant At Acceso

Location: El Salvador, or remote in Central America but available to travel to El Salvador for 1-2 weeks in January

Across our agribusinesses, we have impacted nearly 35,000 smallholder farmers and farm workers, generating more than $60m in farmer income to date.

About this role:
Acceso is hiring a consultant to provide targeted support to the Training Manager and Field Teams in preparation for launching farmer training programs across a variety of value chains in mid-February. All training programs will be based on a learning-by-doing teaching methodology that prioritizes effective teaching strategies for adults.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. (70%) Help refine materials for Acceso’s producer training programs in horticulture, basic grains (maize and beans), artisanal fishing, seafood, and peanuts. Specifically:
    • Provide feedback on draft lesson plans and identify opportunities to incorporate additional interactive exercises and adult learning strategies to improve the quality of the training modules
    • Help transform material provided by technical teams into tools that can be used in the field, such as reference guides, handouts, worksheets, images, workbooks, etc.
  2. (30%) Help prepare the Acceso field team to implement training programs, including but not limited to:
    • Introductory training for technicians on effective facilitation techniques
    • Training for field supervisors on effective strategies for the quality of technicians’ training sessions and providing feedback
    • Training for technical team on other topics, based on Acceso’s needs and consultant’s experience

Qualifications:

  • Significant experience designing and leading training programs for technical teams in Central America
  • Significant experience creating agriculture training programs in Central America (experience creating programs targeted at small farmers is a plus)
  • Experience applying train-the-trainer methodologies and strategies for adult learning
  • Extremely effective at providing feedback and ensuring that participants are learning and improving
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues to meet critical deadlines
  • Creative, out-of-the-box thinker
  • Based in El Salvador is a plus, but at a minimum must be available to travel to El Salvador for 1 week in January
