About the Refugee-Led Research Hub (RLRH):
The Refugee-Led Research Hub (RLRH) is an initiative of the Refugee Studies Centre (RSC) at the University of Oxford. RLRH supports individuals with lived experience of displacement to become leaders in fields of humanitarian response, forced migration, human rights, and related areas. We do so by delivering academic programming to a global cohort of students who have been affected by displacement, supporting access to graduate degrees and professional development opportunities. RLRH also creates opportunities for researchers with displacement backgrounds to lead primary and secondary research studies, from start to finish.
About the consultancy:
We are currently recruiting a consultant to lead the design and facilitation of high-quality, graduate-level academic programming for a global cohort of learners affected by displacement. In consultation with RLRH’s academic and research team, the consultant will deliver a comprehensive academic curriculum that will support learners to progress to advanced academic and research careers.
Activities:
The appointed consultant will engage in the following activities over five months, from mid June through October 2024, with possibility for extension**:**
- Workplan: Design a detailed workplan with deliverables relating to the design and delivery of academic programmes.
- Curriculum development: Lead the design and implementation of academic programmes including short online courses, training, and workshops. Design an integrated academic curriculum, including seminars, enrichment activities, and support structures to ensure RLRH learners succeed in their academic journeys.
- Academic facilitation: Lead delivery of academic programmes, including flagship RLRH programmes RSC Pathways and Graduate Horizons.
- Academic support: Lead the launch of a graduate attachment scheme in collaboration with British Institute of Eastern Africa (BIEA), incorporating lessons learned from previous cohorts and in consultation with previous graduate attaches.
- Publications: Facilitate an advanced academic writing workshop series to enable learners to produce high-quality written outputs for the RLRH blog. Provide editorial support at all stages of the publication process.
- Learning and documentation: Contribute to the evaluation and gathering lessons learned across aforementioned academic programmes. Develop documentation relating to all aspects of curriculum development and facilitation.
Profile:
The ideal consultant will meet the following criteria:
- Have completed a master’s degree, preferably in Refugee and Forced Migration Studies, Development Studies, Humanitarian Action, Education, International Relations, or in another relevant field.
- Demonstrated experience in teaching, facilitating, executing training workshops, and seminars amongst diverse cohorts of learners.
- Ability to support and transfer skills to learners from diverse backgrounds and skill levels.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, analysis, and report writing.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills, with experience working across diverse teams with empathy and sensitivity.
- Ability to work independently, prioritise own workload, and work flexibly.
- Commitment to the RLRH mission of enabling refugee leadership in knowledge production.
- Have robust research experience in Refugee and Forced Migration Studies, with advanced knowledge of research methods and techniques.
