About: Action Against Hunger
Created in 1979, Action Against Hunger is an international non-governmental organization that fights hunger in the world. Its charter of humanitarian principles – independence, neutrality, non-discrimination, free and direct access to victims, professionalism, transparency – has been the basis of its identity for more than 40 years. Its mission is to save lives by eliminating hunger through the prevention, detection and treatment of undernutrition, in particular during and after emergencies related to conflicts and natural disasters. Action Against Hunger coordinates its programs around 5 areas of activity: Nutrition and Health – Mental Health, Psychosocial Support and Protection – Food Safety and Ways of Existence – Water, Health, Sanitation and Hygiene – Advocacy. Mission :
Under the responsibility of the Director General, your main mission will be to define, coordinate, supervise and implement the Expertise strategies, including, Research and Advocacy for Action Against Hunger within the Action Against Hunger international network.
Your objectives are divided around five main axes :
It is up to you to define and manage the expertise, research and advocacy strategy of the association, in close coordination with the other departments. You are attentive to the consistency and quality of all projects and vectors of influence of the association and their appropriation by the teams on the ground. Based on the strategic objectives of the organization, you prioritize the themes of Action Against Hunger intervention and validate the associated human and financial resources while effectively integrating the issue of gender equity in strategies, including, ACF policies and practices from the Department.
You manage the Expertise and Advocacy Department (DEP) and manage the people and services directly attached to it (about 60 people, 10 of whom are directly attached to you).
You have a role of representation of Action Against Hunger internally and externally within the network, in forums or in the media. Your action strengthens ACF’s ability to share knowledge and increase its impact and influence in its areas of expertise.
In order to maximize access and strengthen the influence of ACF, you develop and cultivate networks, alliances and coalitions as well as policy dialogue with decision-makers in France and internationally. You set the targets, though, spaces and opportunities for influence and advocacy on ACF’s priority themes in France and internationally – in coordination with the network (IMG Advocacy) and the country offices involved.
You ensure the development of the technical sectors of the organization as well as research, oriented to innovation, to the advancement of the global agenda of fight against hunger, as well as effective application in ACF country programming. You provide strategic direction and ensure the involvement of operational teams and country offices.
Profile :
You have ten years of professional experience in the field of humanitarian action, acquired both in positions of responsibility at the headquarters of organizations, and in the field.
You have significant managerial experience and are able to pilot and federate senior and autonomous teams.
You have already piloted strategies and action plans in the areas of advocacy, expertise and research. You have experience in lobbying and influencing strategies at national and international level within organizations similar to Action Against Hunger.
You are familiar with the fields of intervention of ACF, as well as with one or more areas of expertise and/or research.
You are recognized· for your great oratory and editorial skills.
Prior management experience would be a plus, competence in one of the technical areas as well.
You have a perfect command of english and french (written and oral).
You are mobile internationally (field trips and international meetings, about 20%).
