Background: The Office of Human Resources (OHR) consists of staff working on strategy, policy, talent management and administrative law matters with stakeholders around the globe. The work includes researching, drafting and communicating with stakeholders in written formats. Specifically, in the context of the Secretary-General’s management reform, OHR is leading a streamlining and simplification project that promotes a novel approach to drafting and revising policy texts. In OHR’s ongoing effort to meet these specific goals, a technical expert with experience in simplifying and streamlining text is needed to conduct a set of workshops. The workshops will be designed as a “refresher†for staff who participated in a similar and highly successful initiative in 2019, as well as for staff who have joined OHR more recently. Duties and Responsibilities: Under the supervision of the Chief, Strategy Policy and Development Service, the consultant will: -Prepare a tailored curriculum on techniques for writing clearly and concisely for the United Nations audience -Facilitate four one-day in-person workshops consisting of ten UN staff members for each workshop -Provide feedback -Meet with stakeholders as needed
Qualifications/special skillsA first-level degree or an equivalent qualification in modern languages or another relevant subject, such as law, human resources management, business or public administration, international relations, science or technology, is required. A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in conducting writing skills trainings with a focus on writing concisely, in particular on streamlining and simplifying written text, is required. Experience working in international organizations is desirable.
LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this consultancy, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable.
