COOPI

COOPI Cooperazione Internazionale is a secular and independent NGO, founded in Milan in 1965. It carries out development projects to contribute to the fight against poverty and emergency projects to support people affected by natural disasters or conflicts. COOPI is currently present in 33 countries in Africa, the Middle East, Latin America and the Caribbean. The main institutional donors are the European Union, UN agencies, the Italian Government, local entities and other European governments.

Description of COOPI in the country

Since 2019, COOPI has established a presence in Venezuela to assist the local population after the worsening of the country’s socioeconomic crisis. Starting in July 2020, a regional crisis response program begins, which is implemented in consortium with Venezuelan organizations for the protection of vulnerable groups. In these years, COOPI has expanded its interventions and is currently executing projects in the Capital District, Miranda, Sucre, Bolívar and Delta Amacuro in the sectors: Protection (General Protection and VBG), Sexual and Reproductive Health, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, Livelihoods and Food Safety.

Objective / Job Description

In the framework of the project “ Multisectoral assistance and vital protection services for the Venezuelan population in a situation of greater vulnerability and risk affected by the crisis in Venezuela ”, the intervention is for improve protection conditions and increase the safety and well-being of the Venezuelan population in a situation of greater vulnerability and at risk through the provision of protection and assistance services multisectoral.The Consortium organizations will concentrate their actions in nine (9) states of Venezuela: Amazonas, Apure, Bolívar, Delta Amacuro, Capital District, Falcón, Miranda, Sucre, Táchira and Zulia, carrying out activities with interventions in various subsectors of the Protection Sector, including the response to gender-based violence, child protection and psychosocial support (PSS). In addition, it will also include complementary activities in different subsectors of Food Assistance, Health, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene and Humanitarian Coordination, Information Management and Evaluations.

The Protection Promoter will be responsible for accompanying, promoting and motivating the implementation of the strategy for the prevention of Gender-based Violence and Trafficking in Persons at the community level, disseminating information on key messages for prevention, effective access to specialized protection services, forming support networks for women, generating articulation spaces with leaders, community leaders and other key local actors and facilitating awareness-raising activities in prioritized communities.

The Protection Promoter will combine efforts with the organization’s case management team, promoting community participation, the reduction of barriers to access rights and the improvement of the quality of life of the beneficiary population in the intervention areas, sticking to the objectives, methodological and ethical guidelines established in the standard COOPI operating procedures for addressing VBG survivors and PDT victims.

Areas of responsibility

Specific Activities

  • Effective coordination between the COOPI protection team and community organizations, ensuring fluid and collaborative communication with the various organizations, community councils and other key actors who make life in the assigned community.
  • Organize community campaigns and events within the community to disseminate prevention messages to VBG, TdP and other situations of violence.
  • Promote the formation and accompaniment of support networks for women in the communities prioritized by the project.
  • Set up mobile information points and deliver information about your existing rights and services to the beneficiary population.
  • Support the survey of stakeholder mapping and the characterization of protection, health, education and other community resources available to the beneficiary population.
  • Ensure the safe and timely channeling and referral of survivors of VBG and victims of TdP to project protection services, in case of disclosures during community activities.
  • Promote the participation of community actors, leaders / leaders and organizations led by women to form support networks for women in the identified communities.
  • Promote the prevention of Gender-based Violence and Trafficking in Persons, through playful-recreational strategies, of a psychosocial nature and that promote community mobilization.
  • Facilitate community information sessions and dialogues with women, men, LGBTIQ +, youth and other key groups on VBG, TdP, New Masculinities prevention messages and Sexual and Reproductive Health.
  • Continuous monitoring and evaluation of the impact of activities, collecting data and providing feedback to improve implementation.
  • Support needs monitoring activities on relevant issues in the project implementation areas.
  • Prepare and organize all the means of verification tools such as photographic records, attendance lists, registration of delivery of informative materials and other supports of their activities.
  • Contribute to the diagnosis of protection risks, as well as access to services, in close collaboration with the other members of the case management team.
  • Process and share statistical reports on the activities carried out and the programmatic scope on a monthly basis.
  • Participate in team and supervision meetings.
  • Participate in the processes of formation and exchange of experiences to which they are summoned.
  • Comply with safety guidelines and promote compliance during equipment field trips.
  • Guarantee compliance with the COOPI Code of Ethics and Conduct, Gender Policy, Protection and PEAS Policy.

Desired profile:

ESSENTIAL

  • Professional in Education, Psychology, Social Work or equivalent of directly related studies.
  • Two (2) years of previous experiences working as a promoter in emergency situations or in humanitarian projects (in particular with issues of prevention of GBV and TdP and/or with a gender equality approach and a survivor-centered approach).
  • Skills to sensitize groups to prevention in GBV, TdP, New Masculinities, Sexual and Reproductive Health.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and articulation with different sectors / actors.
  • Systematization of processes and preparation of documents and reports.
  • Ability to collect information in an objective, appropriate and sensitive way, observing carefully, actively listening, paying full attention to the situation and information from the various sources.
  • Interest, availability and work experience in multicultural environments.
  • Ability to work autonomously (organization, work planning, analytical development).
  • Excellent knowledge of the institutional structure of comprehensive support for survivors of VbG, TdP and protection routes at the community and institutional level.
  • Know and apply the principles of humanitarian action: neutrality, humanity, impartiality and independence.
  • Respect for the Vision and Mission of COOPI.
  • Motivation, honesty, proactive and decisive attitude, common sense, discretion.
  • Capacity in systematization of processes and preparation of documents and reports.
  • Management of computer tools (Microsoft Windows operating system) and office tools (Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Availability to travel within the designated area.
  • Sensitivity to gender and diversity.
