After more than 3 years without any reported cholera cases, a resurgence of cholera was confirmed by the Ministry of Public Health and Population ( MSPP ) on October 2, 2022. Thus Cholera had just reappeared in Haiti 12 years after the first outbreak of 2010 which followed the earthquake and which affected at least 820,000 people, including 9,800 deaths according to the MSPP report. Thus, on July 26, 2023, the MSPP statistics show: 56,580 suspicious cases including: 3,612 confirmed cases, 52,608 hospitalized cases, 567 institutional deaths and 247 community deaths on the national territory.

The spread of the cholera epidemic is added to a particular context of crisis characterized by insecurity due to gang violence, social unrest, the fuel crisis that is causing population movement exacerbates the already very low lack of access to basic social services, including water, hygiene and sanitation.

Within the framework of coordination, preparation and humanitarian response EHA in Haiti, UNICEF supports the government ( DINEPA, MSPP ) and NGOs through among others, the provision of EHA inputs and materials enabling them to respond adequately and effectively to the various humanitarian crises affecting the country. As such, the WASH section intends to strengthen the management of the stock of EHA inputs by positioning a motivated young graduates who wish to acquire experiences in the field of Water, of Sanitation and Hygiene.

How can you make a difference?

  •  The objective of the UNICEF internship program in Haiti is :
  •  provide a framework in which a young graduate from academic or seeking work is assigned to UNICEF Haiti, where his educational or professional experience can be improved thanks to practical work missions ;
  •  expose it to the work of UNICEF ;
  •  provide UNICEF Haiti with the assistance of a talented young graduate capable of carrying out stock monitoring and management tasks.

Internship profile

L’UNICEF Haiti est à la recherche d’un stagiaire ayant un intérêt marqué pour le secteur EPAH. Cette offre s’adresse aux étudiants ou diplômé juniors voulant acquérir des expériences dans la gestion de stock d’intrants EPAH et travailler dans le domaine humanitaire. Le stagiaire rejoindra l’équipe EPAH du bureau UNICEF Haiti, collaborera avec les équipes du bureau national et des bureaux de terrain Sud et Gonaïves et pourra interagir avec les ONGs et partenaires du secteur.

Le stagiaire aura les tâches suivantes :

  •  Mises à jour et suivi de l’état du stock WASH en fonction des entrées et sortis
  •  Gestion des demandes d’intrants par les partenaires
  •  Suivi avec les partenaires de l’utilisation des intrants WASH fournis par l’UNICEF
  •  Suivi et vérification des conditions de stockage au niveau de l’entrepôt
  •  Gestion des données, simulation et infographie sur la gestion du stock EPAH
  •  Autres tâches liées à la gestion du stock EPAH selon les besoins

Pour etre qualifié vous devez:

  •  Être âgé d’au moins 18 ans.
  •  Être inscrit comme étudiant dans une université (premier cycle, cycles supérieurs ou doctorat) ou être récemment diplômé (au cours des deux dernières années) dans les domaines de l’Hydraulique, de Génie Civil, Génie Rural, Gestion, Compatibilité et autres spécialités connexes.
  •  Excellent rendement scolaire, c’est-à-dire : avoir d’excellents résultats scolaires attestés par des dossiers universitaires ou institutionnels récents
  •  Avoir une bonne maitrise des logiciels de base : Word, Excel, Power Point.
  •  Avoir d’excellentes capacités d’élaboration de rapports, de comptes rendus, email, de rédaction et de compétences en communication.
  •  Be available to go to the field ( sometimes make difficult journeys ) and to work in a restrictive environment.
  •  Have the ability to work under pressure and / or in an emergency.
  •  Have the capacity to work within a multicultural and multidisciplinary team.
  •  Not having close relatives ( father, mother, brother, sister ) working in a UNICEF office

Additional experiences:

  •  Work experience in the field of accounting / management, EPAH and / or knowledge of emergency situations is considered an asset.
  •  Having completed an internship in a company in the field of management and accounting with a strong basic software including Excel.

Language requirements:

  •  Mastering French is required. Practical knowledge of English, an important asset.
