PILnet is an international, locally present non-governmental organization (NGO) that partners with legal professionals and civil society organizations (CSOs) globally to protect civic space, address global challenges, and work to build just, equitable, and sustainable societies. PILnet does this by supporting civil society, engaging legal professionals, and nurturing the next generation of legal professionals in three strategic priority areas: civic space, climate justice, and refugees and people on the move. PILnet currently has offices in New York, Budapest, and Hong Kong, but operates globally.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

We are seeking a passionate and self-driven Development and Fundraising Officer to join our Development team and play a vital role in supporting resource mobilization and fundraising needed to fulfill our mission. The U.S. Development and Fundraising Officer will provide critical support in identifying funding opportunities in the US and support the organization’s grant writing processes. Under the guidance of and reporting to the Senior Development & Partnerships Manager (presently based in Budapest), you will apply your precision, analytical, writing skills and experience to:

  • Conduct in-depth research to identify potential US foundations and government funding opportunities aligned with the organization’s mission and programs.
  • Develop and maintain regular and robust pipelines of funding prospects.
  • Collaborate with program staff and the Development Committee of the Board of Directors to identify funding opportunities, and develop strong project proposals.
  • Craft compelling grant proposals and reports that effectively communicate our impact and fundraising priorities.
  • Build and manage relationships with foundation program officers.
  • Work with the Development and Fundraising Assistant to track grant submissions,
    reporting requirements, and donor communications.Contribute to the development of other fundraising materials as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (such as nonprofit management, international relations or development, business, marketing, communications, data management or a related social science).
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in the nonprofit sector or international development context.
  • Demonstrated success in securing grants from US foundations.

Skills and knowledge:

  • Strong understanding of the US philanthropic landscape and foundation priorities.
  • Experience with securing grants from US government entities such as USAID and others, is a plus.
  • Exceptional writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to conduct thorough research and analyze data.
  • Interest in public interest law, social justice, and human rights law issues is a plus.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of and experience with various funding mechanisms, such as grants, individual giving, corporate partnerships, and events is a plus.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Fluent communication skills in English, both written and verbal are required.

LOCATION AND DETAILS

You will work alongside a small multicultural team from nonprofit management and legal backgrounds, providing you with a supportive and flexible working environment. This position is based in the US and is either remote or based in the NY office. Applicants should have a right to live and work in the US as PILnet is not in a position to facilitate visa and work permits. PILnet is open to flexible arrangements including consultant arrangements, with pay to be negotiated accordingly. Indicative salary range (based on experience, seniority and location): USD 30.000 – 50.000 per annum based on 50% FTE capacity.
