Founded in 2011, International NGO Safety Organisation (INSO) is an international non-governmental organisation that supports humanitarian actors in safety by establishing platforms for safety coordination in risk contexts.

INSO provides registered NGOs with a range of free services to its partners, including real-time incident tracking, analytical reporting, security-related data and mapping, support in crisis management, staff guidance and training.

INSO provides daily support to more than 1,000 NGOs in 16 of the most insecure countries in the world.

INSO is registered in the Netherlands with its headquarters in The Hague, the international city of peace and justice.

INSO Mission Burkina Faso

INSO Burkina Faso was opened in 2018 and today has more than 184 partners (National and international NGOs, as well as several members of the Red Cross and Red Crescent movement). INSO Burkina Faso currently covers the Sahel, Centre-North, North, East, Centre-East, Hauts-Bassins and Centre regions where the coordination office is located in Ouagadougou. The INSO mission supports NGO partners in the’-routing of’aide, by providing advice and analysis on local conditions, the’access analysis, etc, training focused on managing staff safety, while facilitating NGO coordination and advocacy for humanitarian access.

We are looking for an experienced person to join our team as a Training Manager (TM) based in Ouagadougou and mobile on all the regions covered by INSO in Burkina Faso.

Job overview

As a Training Manager, you will be responsible for the development, organization, and, facilitation and evaluation of training to support national and international NGOs in security management, crisis management, individual security and humanitarian access. You will ensure compliance with INSO training standards and best practices, lead the six-person training team, and, as well as the preparation and implementation of the annual training plan.

The ideal candidate is fluent in French and has solid experience in the humanitarian sector, adult learning or security and civil safety, with strong project management skills.

Main Responsibilities

Implementation of the training plan

  • Conduct a training needs assessment.
  • Contextualize the training, in coordination with the program teams.
  • Plan/organize/facilitate training, in connection with support and program teams.
  • Communicate with partners on training.
  • Design/integrate monitoring and evaluation tools, in coordination with the’ Information team and the Reporting Officer.
  • Contribute to the MEAL and the establishment of donor reports, in coordination with the Reporting Officer.

Supervise the’ training team

  • Managing the training team.
  • Coordinate with support, programme and coordination teams in Burkina Faso, as well as global management at headquarters.
  • Seek advice and support from other INSO training teams (16 countries).
  • Assist management staff in the management of the national programme.
  • Assist in managing the perception of INSO’s work in order to maintain recognition of its mandate of independence, impartiality and neutrality.

Qualifications and Skills Required

  • Mandatory current French, abilities to exchange in English ;
  • At least 3 years of experience in the humanitarian sector, adult education (including educational engineering) and/or civil safety and security ;
  • At least 2 years of’ experience in the management of’ team and project ;
  • Established safety and security management skills NGOs ;
  • Professional experience in conflict-affected areas.

Desirable characteristics

  • Experience in organizing and facilitating training related to NGO safety and security management, personal security, access and humanitarian negotiation ;
  • Experience in public speaking ;
  • Project management and/or first aid certifications ;
  • Experience in the implementation of technical solutions in the field of training.

Terms & conditions

Contract of 12 months. Monthly salary of 5,000€ per month, 4 calendar days of annual leave per month worked, 7 days of R&R every 3 months with an allowance of 1250€, accommodation, etc, comprehensive medical coverage (United States excluded) and life insurance included.
