Background
American Friends Service Committee is a Quaker organization that includes people of various faiths who are committed to social justice, peace, and humanitarian service. Guided by the Quaker belief in the divine light of each person, AFSC works with communities and partners worldwide to challenge unjust systems and promote lasting peace. AFSC has more than 100 years of experience building peace in communities worldwide and works in the following ways: bridging and convening, community organizing and civil society strengthening, advocacy, research, and analysis. It seeks to change situations and systems that lead to violence. Much of AFSC’s work includes support to opportunities for dialogue and capacity building led by the affected communities.
About the Somalia Program
AFSC believe that young people can positively transform the prevailing context of violent conflicts in Somalia into more secure, productive, and just places. Consequently, AFSC is implementing a Peace-building program in Somalia targeting the youth, with the approach of empowering them with peacebuilding, leadership, and advocacy skills.
In Somalia AFSC works in Mogadishu, Kismayu, Bosaso, Dhobley and Dadaab Refugees Camp in Kenya that host 95% refugees of Somali origin.
About South Sudan Program
In South Sudan AFSC is implementing a trauma healing program for enhanced peacebuilding in South Sudan by working directly with two (2) local partners and indirectly with 19 CBOs/FBOs in Juba, Mvolo, Mudri and Jur River. The program aims to heal peacebuilders off their secondary trauma, build the capacity of peacebuilders on primary and secondary trauma, development, and operationalization of work-based trauma healing policies, conduct advocacy and research on trauma healing and peacebuilding.
Scope of assignment:
The consultant is expected to train quality report writing aspects including and not limited to:
- Importance of clear and concise writing
- Structure, presentation, style and components of a narrative report
- Qualities of good report and guide participants in report writing using best practice
- Reporting key achievements, lessons learnt, challenges and recommendations
- Reporting on project results
- Linking narrative report to financial report
Expected Outcomes
- Deliver clear and easy to understand report writing training to the implementing partners and AFSC program staff.
- Providing reference materials and tools to the participants.
Objectives of the Consultancy:
To train implementing partners and AFSC program staff on quality reporting (linking narrative to financial reporting)
Specifically, the Consultant(s) is expected to:
- Develop training materials including any relevant case scenarios.
- Share a package of training materials (handouts) for future reference.
- Prepare a training programme and conduct in person training for the youth.
- Prepare and submit final training report.
Duration of the assignment:
The assignment will be conducted and completed within 10 consultancy days between 1st to 26th July 2024.This time will be allocated to 3 days-preparation and initial meetings with AFSC team on consultancy, and 2 days- development of training materials, 3 days -delivering the training and 2 days reporting.
Participants: 16 partner staff from Somalia and South Sudan programs, and 8 AFSC staff.
Training dates: 8th to 10th July 2024
Applicant Requirement
Desired Qualifications:
AFSC is seeking qualified, experienced, proactive, and dedicated expert with knowledge in project management, report writing and communication.
- The ideal candidate should have bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline such as social sciences, social work, political science, or any other related field. Masters will be an added advantage.
- Experience working with non-profit organizations and development projects.
- Proven experience in developing and delivering training workshops on quality reporting.
Key skills and competencies
- Strong understanding of narrative and financial reporting principles.
- Strong communication with excellent facilitation and training skills.
- Ability to adapt training content to diverse audiences.
- Language: Excellent written and spoken English.
