Organizational framework

The main objective of FAO offices, led by an FAO Representative, is to help governments formulate policies, programs and projects to achieve food security and to reduce hunger and malnutrition, to help develop the agricultural, fisheries and forestry sectors, and use its environmental and natural resources in a sustainable way.

Hierarchical dependence

Under the general supervision of the National Program Officer, the Senior Program Specialist and with the direct technical follow-up of the Project Coordinator.

Field of specialization

Coordinate the implementation of actions in the Local Innovation Development Plan ( PDIL ) related to the facilitation of capacity development processes and technical assistance to the protagonists and associated groups for improve their agricultural production, insertion in local markets and improvements in food and nutritional security.

Tasks and responsibilities

  •  Support the Technical Supervisor in formulating, updating and supervising the joint annual programming of activities necessary to achieve the established results.
  •  Comply with the strategies and activities defined in the Operational Plan ( POA ) of the project, prioritizing proper articulation with the territorial implementation specialist and technical supervisor.
  •  Comply with the strategies and activities defined in the Operational Plan ( POA ) of the PDIL with the proper articulation of the territorial implementation specialist and technical supervisor.
  •  Prepare a technical assistance and training plan for the protagonists of the project.
  •  In coordination with the purchase assistant, plan the activities of the PDIL Purchase Plan with the participation of the protagonists.
  •  Implementation, monitoring and monitoring stage:
  •  Support in carrying out the diagnosis, formulation, review and implementation of PDILs.
  •  Train the protagonists in the topics contained in the PDIL training plan with the support of specialists and for the methodological approach the support of the communication and training specialist to the development.
  •  Accompany the families, protagonists and promoters of the communities, in the participatory processes of formulation and implementation of actions described in the PDIL.
  •  Coordinate, monitor and technical assistance to PDIL players in the processes of improving production and its insertion in local markets.
  •  Locally coordinate training events and in general pedagogical, communication activities, fairs and marketing activities, and others defined in the PDIL with a gender and intercultural approach.
  •  Coordinate technical assistance, monitoring, monitoring and evaluation for the implementation of developed rural economic ventures.
  •  Coordinate the organization of routes and groups by communities for the delivery of materials, supplies, equipment and other goods established in the purchase plan, ensuring the participation of the protagonists.
  •  Support the drawing up of minutes of deliveries of materials, supplies, tools and equipment of the different modalities of benefits delivered by the project.
  •  Ensure information regarding the contribution of the protagonists during the implementation of the PDIL
  •  Prepare or facilitate the preparation of reports of meetings, workshops, field trips and related activities of project implementation.
  •  Capture images and videos for the audiovisual repository of the project, and for communicational or press material that is requested.
  •  Provide in a structured way the means of verification associated with the progress of implementation of the PDIL, as well as other supporting documentation for the monitoring mechanism.
  •  Stick to standards of transparency, objectivity and impartiality in the development of all project activities, in line with FAO policies.
  •  Ensure the information related to the project indicators by filling in the different formats provided to feed the monitoring mechanism.
  •  Incorporate project management principles as well as the application of FAO’s Gender and Environmental Standards.
  •  Take training that is required to improve your technical performance in the context of the project.
  •  Perform other functions that are required of you that are related to the execution of the Project.
  •  Provide the information inputs that are required for the evaluation processes.
  •  Prepare in collaboration with the entire project team the annual project report.
  •  On the generation of reports and coordination:
  •  Prepare monthly reports on the performance of activities as a field extension technician.
  •  Prepare quarterly, semi-annual and annual reports to be presented as progress of the project.
  •  Support in the reports of the end of the PDIL considering the activities contemplated in the PGAS and other specific plans such as PPI.
  •  Promote harmony and support in the search for solutions to community problems related to the Project.
  •  Support in information management for project reporting.
  •  Additional information
  •  The consultant ( a ) must be willing to collaborate in other activities not contemplated in the terms of reference, and that are identified as essential for the proper development of project activities.
  •  All the above activities should be carried out in coordination with the FAO technical team and specialists, as well as with the project operational coordinator.
  •  The Consultant may apply to any of the headquarters defined for the position ( Bilwi, Siuna, Bluefields ) with frequent movements to PDIL advocacy communities to carry out technical actions and efforts.

THE CANDIDATES WILL BE EVALUED IN ARRANGE TO THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA:

Minimum requirements

  •  Professional with a degree or engineering in agronomy, agroforestry, forestry, ecology, natural resources or those related to the agricultural field.
  •  Preferable with courses in agroecological production, rural extension and others related to agricultural production.
  •  Minimum five ( 5 ) years of proven work experience directly with protagonists developing technical assistance actions and training.
  •  Practical knowledge of Spanish ( Level C ) and limited knowledge of English ( Level B )
  •  Desirable command of one of the languages of the Caribbean Coast of Nicaragua.

Technical / functional skills

  •  Experience in the development and promotion of agricultural technologies, climate change, food security, nutrition
  •  People with means of transport ( motorcycles ) will be prioritized. The post will offer mobilization and depreciation expenses.
  •  People with computer equipment ( Laptop ) will be prioritized. The position will offer depreciation expenses.
  •  You must show knowledge of operational work in territory ( Caribbean Coast of Nicaragua ), command of the language of the population to which the protagonists of the PDIL belong, ease of preparation of training events, knowledge of the Caribbean coast of Nicaragua, technical writing of reports. Knowledge in rural development, knowledge in project formulation, monitoring and evaluation, knowledge in management, adaptation and mitigation to the phenomena of climate change in Nicaragua and knowledge of gender and youth approaches.
