The Nutrition and Production Health Specialist Technician has functions and objectives framed both under Macro Process 2 (production and field support), on which he/she has hierarchical dependence, and under Macro Process 1 (humanitarian awareness), on which he/she has functional dependence.

The Production Technician will be responsible for training, educating, empowering and empowering field teams to ensure the monitoring, quality, support and supervision of projects and programs throughout the project cycle: a) identification/formulation, b) planning, c) execution, d) monitoring and e) evaluation. He/she is responsible for supporting the field to ensure quality, relevance, design, justification and measurement of results throughout the project cycle, as well as promoting the scaling up of Action Against Hunger’s intervention approaches and methodologies.

To this end, the Production Technician will also be responsible for updating and generating knowledge in the areas assigned to him/her, identifying trends and contributing to the modelling of interventions, always with the ultimate goal of ensuring the efficiency, quality and relevance of the contracts and missions he/she supports.

It also participates in technical development initiatives, capitalisation and dissemination of good practices at the field team level, promoting good practices both at the management level and in terms of technical approaches.

The main activities you will perform are the following:

  • Participate, with the rest of the production team, so that all projects integrate the technical planning, execution and management tools throughout the project cycle for good monitoring and consolidation of data at the project and contract level. Proactively ensure direct support on the ground throughout the project implementation process from the identification and design phase to the planning, execution, monitoring and closure phases, ensuring the coherence and technical quality of projects and programs and their alignment with strategies. Follow up on the technical execution of activities and assigned contracts, identifying and supporting the response to risks of under-execution and low quality. Participate in the processes of identifying training needs of the teams that he/she supervises and in the selection, briefing and debriefing of technical coordinators and other technical profiles as needed.
  • Proactively provide technical knowledge and strengthen the capacities of field teams through training and information, ensuring the application of protocols and methodologies according to technical competence. Identify technical development needs and implementation problems to provide feedback to innovation and modeling processes. Participate in the current process of modeling interventions, defining pedagogical material for the implementation of the modalities and identifying weaknesses in our methodologies, the need for new technical developments and barriers to the scaling of intervention modalities. Also, participate in the definition of scaling plans for new intervention modalities.
  • Identify good practices and lessons learned on the intervention modalities and different types of activities developed. Participate in the identification of trends, development of innovative approaches and updating of technical positions in their areas.
  • Participate actively and regularly in the exchange of information with his/her functional manager for the development, monitoring, support in the development and updating of the technical strategies on mission. In accordance with the guidelines and priorities established by the Department of Nutrition and Health, he/she will be responsible for carrying out the action plan identified for him/her, for each of the assigned technical development areas, creating/selecting evidence, tools and guiding documents.
  • Participate in the implementation of training processes both within and outside the technical department, related to their experience and assigned technical development areas. Actively participate in thematic discussion groups and spaces for sharing and dissemination assigned, both within and outside the organization. Responsible for developing the action plan for each of the assigned thematic areas, creating/selecting evidence, tools and guidance documents.

Does this description fit you?

  • Technical profiles (health sciences, public health, etc.) or other relevant profile. Postgraduate degree in a discipline related to humanitarian action and international cooperation.
  • Specialised knowledge in health and nutrition project management and implementation. Knowledge in project planning and implementation. Knowledge in project cycle management. Strong experience in providing technical support to field teams. Training, knowledge and ability to continuously update their main areas of technical development. Understanding of issues related to humanitarian action and/or international cooperation interventions. Analytical development and writing skills. Autonomy in work and ability to advise and support field staff in a consultative manner.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ previous experience in different geographical contexts. Experience in the context of Latin America is valued. Previous experience in a similar position in both development programs and humanitarian crises and emergency responses. Experience in cooperation programs with a health component, including Nutrition. Experience in defining interventions and preparing proposals for donors.
  • Familiar with international quality standards: Sphere, Core Humanitarian Standards, etc. Knowledge of Development Cooperation and Emergency Response. Knowledge of the call for proposals processes of the main donors (OFDA, ECHO, SIDA, etc.). Experience in coordination positions at field level. Demonstrated ability to work within multidisciplinary and multisectoral teams. Organizational and interpersonal skills, together with the ability to remain calm under pressure and not lose sight of established priorities.
  • Spanish and English.
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, Sharepoint, Teams, OneDrive). Familiarity with data management and analysis programs. International mobility. Frequent travel to intervention areas, including unsafe environments. Understanding of the importance of gender in humanitarian work and international cooperation.
