Technical Advisor in Health and Nutrition (national position)

About the position:
The Health and Nutrition Advisor (CTSN) position will be based in Bujumbura with frequent field travel. In collaboration with the Ministry of Public Health and the Fight against AIDS (MSPLS), various Health and Nutrition projects are implemented, including nutrition-sensitive projects funded by several donors. These projects focus on prevention, community mobilization and behavior change.

The CTSN will report to the Director of Programs. He/she will work closely with the Area Coordinators, Health and Nutrition Project Managers, Nutrition-Sensitive Projects (Green Graduation), the Climate Change Adaptation Advisor, the Program Support Officer as well as the Program Quality and Development Coordinator.

Contract start: October or November 2024

Position Objective:
The objective of the CTSN position is to promote the national health nutrition (SN) strategy, provide SN technical support to offices and teams, liaise with government representatives and other SN sector partners to participate in working groups and improve the profile of projects as international SN actors in Burundi.

The CTSN will be responsible for providing strategic and technical support to SN programs. This role will also include providing technical advice for the SN staff recruitment process.

In conjunction with the MSPLS and SN stakeholders, the CTSN will play a key role in understanding SN priorities as well as in monitoring the evolution of the health context. The CTSN will be a force for proposals to adapt the strategy and projects according to the evolution of the health situation, while ensuring monitoring of health risks and proposing measures to prevent, prepare for and adapt to epidemics.

The CTSN will have specific responsibility for developing new projects aimed at reducing high levels of chronic malnutrition among vulnerable communities (including refugees and internally displaced persons).

Main responsibilities:

  • Capacity building of Health and Nutrition staff.
  • Analysis and reporting.
  • Monitoring and evaluation.
  • Accountability.

Required skills and experience

Essential

  • Doctor of Medicine degree with 5 years of experience in the field of NS, including at least two in a technical and/or management role; a Master’s degree in Nutrition is a plus.
  • Burundian nationality or work permit in Burundi.
  • Experience in implementing nutrition interventions in development and emergency contexts.
  • Good knowledge of community mobilization strategies.
  • Significant experience in nutrition program design, project cycle management (PCM), budget monitoring and participatory approaches.
  • Strong leadership skills, team spirit, ability to innovate and capitalize on good practices.
  • Proficiency in French and computer tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Desirable

  • Experience in epidemic preparedness and response.
  • Experience in preparing program documents for different donors.
  • Knowledge of English is an asset.
  • Female candidates are strongly encouraged.
