About our work in Cultural and Community Psychology

Community psychology seeks to understand and address human behavior and problems in context by examining the circumstances that surrounds the individual. Context has been conceptualized in a variety of ways, such as social, organizational, historical, economic and political. Context is also understood as the thematically significant place in which the target groups live their lives. We work in different regional contexts and with people from different cultural backgrounds. Therefore, a cultural approach is important to us, considering community perspectives and an understanding of shared and divergent meanings, goals and norms in the framework of mental health theory and practice, social connectedness and empowerment.

We are currently working on two projects for the mental health and well-being of people in difficult situations in Iraq (RAWABET project) and Germany (GEZUMI project) and promoting in these projects the peaceful coexistence of different members and groups in society. In addition to these MHPSS project we also implement others to promote energy communities on Mayotte (MAESHA project) and in Sierra Leone, Kenya and Madagascar (ENERGICA project), which strengthen social links and, above all, provide people in disadvantaged areas with sustainable renewable resources and improve their lives.

In all our interventions, we take a community-based approach, strongly considering individuals with their emotions, desires, goals and opinions, but also social dynamics and group collaboration, and try to give everyone a voice in the process.
