The Country Director (DP) is the maximum responsible for ACTION AGAINST HUNGER in the region, which includes Guatemala, Nicaragua and Honduras. In coordination with the Geographical Manager, it ensures good resource management to achieve the mission’s strategic objectives. It ensures the definition and monitoring of the strategy, maintaining the quality and relevance of the actions carried out, always within the organization’s mandate.
The DP represents ACTION AGAINST HUNGER before funders, authorities, international organizations, other non-governmental organizations, the private sector and any institution of interest. He is the spokesperson for ACTION AGAINST HUNGER before national and international media, in coordination with the Communication Area.
The DP is responsible for ensuring the financial viability of the mission in coordination with headquarters and ensuring efficient management of available resources. He directs the implementation of the public and private fundraising strategy designed in coordination with headquarters for his country and is responsible for promoting innovative technical approaches and promoting the systematization of good practices and their replicability.
The DP, through its leadership, motivates its team, anticipates and manages potential conflicts, encourages innovative approaches and supervises the coordination team.
The DP is responsible for risk management and security in the mission, promotes, encourages and supervises the application of the ACTION Charter AGAINST HUNGER, as well as its code of ethics and its anti-fraud policy.
- REPRESENTATION AND POSITIONING: Maintain and expand the organization’s position in the region; Represent the organization before key stakeholders (authorities, partners, donors, media) and internationally in accordance with the mandate, the letter of principles and within the strategic framework of ACTION AGAINST HUNGER; Ensure the active participation of the organization in the humanitarian coordination system in the region and in all relevant coordination spaces; Ensure the timely and quality realization of documents and other internal and external communication products.
- DEFINITION AND FOLLOW-UP OF THE MISSION STRATEGY: Define and execute, in coordination with its team and with the geographic manager, the intervention strategy of Action against Hunger in the region, in accordance with the organization’s mandate and the analysis of needs and opportunities ; Carry out a permanent monitoring of the context, centralize the information and propose adjustments to achieve objectives; Define and follow up on the mission strategy financing plan and guide resources for its implementation (public and private); Establish / maintain relationships with key actors; Define program priorities in coordination with your team.
- STRUCTURE AND OPERATION: Define with headquarters the structure for achieving the mission’s objectives based on the priorities identified in the financing strategy and plan (positions, profiles, work processes); Ensure the good general management of the team, applying the organization’s policies and work processes; Detect and resolve potential conflicts; Maintain and reinforce unity dynamics, coherence and motivation of the team; Ensure the internal communication of the mission.
- RESOURCES MANAGEMENT: Ensure the good operational and financial management of the mission, in collaboration with its team and headquarters; Guarantee the efficiency in the use of resources and the scope of the annual objectives; Guide and support the Financial Department in the global management of mission resources. Follow the financial situation and based on the strategy and objectives set, make the relevant decisions in collaboration with your team and headquarters.
- RISK MANAGEMENT: Ensure the application of appropriate measures to mitigate the legal, reputational, financial and security risks of the mission; Ensure respect for the principles and values of the organization, particularly with regard to the code of conduct and the fight against fraud, corruption, abuse and other bad practices; Report in time and form any violation of our protocols and policies, according to established procedures; Guarantee the respect of the legal obligations in the country; Analyze the risks to the security of the mission and adapt the operation and internal measures of the mission to the security situation.
- Proven experience in: relationship and institutional representation; leadership of high-level multidisciplinary teams; identification, negotiation and management of development and humanitarian action programs
- Minimum 5 years of experience in an international NGO in a general management position and with proven experience in negotiations and high-level representation.
- Studies, preferably on topics related to international cooperation and development; High knowledge of the humanitarian and international cooperation environment
- Vocational capacity; LANGUAGES: Spanish and English
- General knowledge of the organization and its intervention sectors; Experience in Latin America and knowledge on migration issues will be positively valued.
