Programme Officer – WYFEI 2030 Cluster Convener (x2) At Graça Machel Trust


Background

In July 2022, the African Union launched the African Union Women and Youth Financial and Economic Inclusion Initiative (WYFEI) 2030. WYFEI 2030 is overseen by the Women, Gender and Youth Directorate (WGYD) and is operationalized through a partnership framework comprising 3 clusters – Financial Inclusion, Entrepreneurship and Business Development and Quotas. These clusters are communities of action that consist of an open network of people with complementary skills from different organizations jointly delivering, leading and coordinating continental efforts towards women and youth financial and economic inclusion.

The African Union Commission, together with the Graca Machel Trust (GMT) and the Mastercard Foundation are seeking to develop a coordinated Pan African response in line with the aspirations of the AU Women and Youth Financial and Economic Inclusion Initiative. The response will leverage existing commitments and relationships across the three partner organizations while exploring opportunities to catalyze quick additional results.

In that regard, the Graca Machel Trust (GMT) seeks to recruit and second to the AUC Women, Gender and Youth Directorate, two Programme Officers: WYFEI Cluster Conveners to support the implementation of the Women and Youth Financial and Economic Inclusion Initiative under the various activities of the Clusters.

Key responsibilities

As a member of the WYFEI Secretariat, the Programme Officer will collaborate with the entire Directorate staff to implement the following tasks:

  1. Provide support to the review of the existing challenges and opportunities for deploying a Pan African economic and financial inclusion programme in Africa in line with the priorities of the AU WYFEI initiative, GMT and Mastercard Foundation.
  2. Lead consultative processes with WYFEI clusters to assess needs and capacities for a Pan African implementation of a programme on Women and Youth Economic and Financial Inclusion
  3. Contribute to conducting analysis and generate accurate reports in a timely manner for the Women and Youth Financial and Economic Inclusion initiative;
  4. Support the production and management of knowledge products in line with women and youth financial and economic inclusion including gathering knowledge on emerging issues and trends on achieving quotas for women and youth.
  5. Assist in preparations and follow up of WYFEI 2030 events as well as capacity building initiatives and training
  6. Perform additional tasks as requested by the Project Coordinator

Qualifications and required skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Gender studies, Law, economics, Finance, International Relations, international development, law, Sociology, Public Administration, or related studies.
  • 2 years of relevant work and professional experience. Experience working at a regional or international level will be an added advantage.
  • Experience and exposure to working in Economic and/or Financial Inclusion will be considered an advantage
  • Lived or work-based experience of women’s rights in Africa
  • Experience working directly with the AU, particularly on women or youth development will be an added advantage
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure in a multicultural environment.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Sound planning, organizational and facilitating skills.
  • Ability to work across business units/geographies; cultural sensitivity.
  • Project Management will be an added advantage

Language requirements

Proficiency in English is required, fluency in another AU language (French, Portuguese, Spanish, Arabic) is an added advantage
