About the Job

The Premises Maintenance Supervisor ensures proper maintenance of ICRC premises and equipment and supervises the maintenance team.

This is a national/resident position based in Nairobi, Kenya with frequent work-related travels to Somalia.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversees and manages all maintenance, construction, and repair works. Plans and schedules visits to each delegation site in Somalia to ensure comprehensive coverage of all premises.
  • Evaluates the condition of premises and infrastructure, noting any signs of damage, or deficiencies.
  • Collects data and information on maintenance needs, equipment status, and passive security measures in place at each site.
  • Develops work plans and schedules for maintenance activities, including routine inspections, repairs, and upgrades.
  • Prepare designs, drawings, bills of quantities, and works progress schedules for maintenance works.
  • Coordinates with external contractors and service providers to execute maintenance tasks and project, supervises the quality of work.
  • Ensures compliance with ICRC safety regulations and environmental standards during construction and repair activities.
  • Monitors the progress, quality, and cost of work performed, while adhering to budget and addressing any issues or deviations from the plan.
  • Conducts inspections and quality checks to verify that maintenance works meet the established standards and specifications.
  • Assesses the passive security posture of each premises, identifying vulnerabilities, weak points, or gaps in existing measures.
  • Participates in sourcing contractors, negotiating contracts, and maintaining the contractors list for all offices and antennas.
  • Assesses the electrical infrastructure, including wiring, outlets, switches, and electrical panels, for functionality and safety.
  • Identifies potential hazards or risks, such as faulty wiring, overloaded circuits, or outdated electrical systems.
  • Consults with relevant engineers to conduct thorough inspections and diagnostic tests as needed.
  • Develops action plans and recommendations to address electrical deficiencies or improve system reliability and efficiency.
  • Implements corrective measures, such as repairs, upgrades, or replacements, to ensure compliance with electrical codes and regulations.

Minimum qualifications and required competencies

  • Bachelor`s degree in mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering or equivalent qualification in a related field of study
  • 5 years’ experience as a Maintenance Supervisor in a busy environment
  • Experience in building and construction or building maintenance
  • Technical knowledge of building systems – electrical and heating
  • Conversant with Health & Safety regulations and procedures
  • Excellent planning and problem-solving skills
  • Fluent in both written and spoken English and Somali language
  • Excellent team management skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite
