The Global Foundation Partnerships team is located within UNICEF’s Private Fundraising and Partnerships (PFP) Division. UNICEF seeks to work in partnership with the world’s leading and emerging foundations on causes of mutual importance, to achieve sustainable change at scale for every child. The organization’s vision is to harness the potential of the foundations community to increase financial investments for children, to exchange knowledge around joint areas of technical expertise, to engage their voice in advocating for children’s rights, and to leverage social sector financing for children.

UNICEF has established a number of highly valuable partnerships with leading foundations, which have been a major source of income growth in recent years. The Global Foundations team has been mandated to accelerate this growth, and identify non-financial engagement opportunities, by implementing the Global Foundations Strategy across key markets, including National Committees and Regional and Country Offices.

How can you make a difference?

The Partnerships Specialist will be expected to support the consolidation and growth of foundation partnerships work. Under the general guidance of the Chief, Foundation Partnerships, s/he will be responsible for supporting key activities relating to UNICEF’s existing high-level partnerships, as well as supporting and being part of team activities and approaches for growth into new areas and ways of working. The role will involve supporting the team on partnerships, event management, knowledge management, market research and development, internal engagement within PFP and National Committees, financing tracking and monitoring, and wider engagement with the PFP Foundations channel.

DELIVERABLES:

1. Support on key existing partnerships and new partnerships for the East Asia Pacific (EAP) region

Work with the Partnerships Manager, Global Foundations to maintain and grow existing Foundations Partnerships in the East Asia Pacific (EAP) region and to identify and develop new Foundations partnerships that delivery on income or influence and impact. Develop systematized ways of working with Regional Office and Country Office colleagues that support accelerated exploration of new Foundation partnerships in the EAP region. Research and gather intelligence on suitable Foundation prospects, their strategies and priorities and areas of synergy with UNICEF programmes. Identify, recommend and support on outreach and cultivation opportunities and on partnership agreement and partnership management processes.

2. Knowledge management and capacity building

Manage key information flows for the Global Foundations team and act as team focal point for Knowledge Management. Monitor internal and external communications and share appropriate information with the Global Foundations team, National Committees, Regional Offices and Country Office to aid effective cross channel, cross divisional working. Implement processes to monitor Foundations partnerships results globally, including but not limited to being the team focal point for the UNISON CRM system, monitoring and tracking income, progress against JSP and PSP targets, supporting on grant management processes and compiling data on programmatic impact achieved through Foundations partnerships.

Work with team members to support on capacity building opportunities for National Committees, Regional Offices and Country Offices, including devising and implementing regular calls, information flows and events. Ensure appropriate use of UNISON and Sharepoint across the UNICEF family.

3. High Level Engagements with key Global Foundations

Work with the Global Foundations team to identify key moments which provide outreach and engagement opportunities for UNICEF with targeted Global Foundations. Work with the Global Foundations team and other key teams in PFP to support on the development of information packages for the UNICEF leadership team and drafting of briefing notes for specific events and meetings, work with the team on areas of internal collaboration within PFP and across UNICEF as required. Support the team in coordination for high level events, thematic roundtables and convening events, as needed, including for example UNGA, Transforming Education Summit, WEF and other.

Education:

  •  An advanced university degree in one of the following fields is required: international development, public administration, business management, communication, or another relevant field.
  •  Alternative, a first-level University Degree in a relevant field combined with (2) additional years of qualifying professional experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Experience:

  •  A minimum of five years of relevant professional experience is required.
  •  A minimum of two years of demonstrable experience in Fundraising is required.
  •  Demonstrable experience in establishing and managing partnerships with Institutional Foundations is an asset.
  •  Demonstrable experience in monitoring large amounts of data (financial and non-financial) from multiple sources and extracting key insights is an asset.
  •  Experience working with or understanding the development sector is required.
  •  Familiarity with UNICEF programmes is an asset.
  •  Experience managing complex grants, developing new partnerships, and new strategic approaches is an asset.
  •  UN/UNICEF experience is an asset.

Language requirement:

  •  Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.

Remarks:

UNICEF PFP-Geneva is currently reviewing organizational changes; therefore, the exact future location of these posts is still under consideration/to be determined. Candidates may be asked to commence duties remotely. Should the selected candidates be assigned and relocate to Geneva, they may later be asked to relocate and be assigned to another location during the initial contract or assignment period.

UNICEF appointments are subject to medical clearance. Issuance of a visa by the host country of the duty station, which will be facilitated by UNICEF, is required for IP positions. Appointments may also be subject to inoculation (vaccination) requirements, including against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid). Government employees that are considered for employment with UNICEF are normally required to resign from their government before taking up an assignment with UNICEF. UNICEF reserves the right to withdraw an offer of appointment, without compensation, if a visa or medical clearance is not obtained, or necessary inoculation requirements are not met, within a reasonable period for any reason.
