Nutrition Project Manager (national position) At Concern Worldwide


About the position

The Nutrition Project Manager position will be based in Kirundo with frequent travel to Karusi (50%). In collaboration with the MSPLS, with the financial support of WFP through funding from the German Development Bank (KfW), a project to prevent malnutrition and strengthen resilience at the community level will be implemented in four districts of Kirundo and Karusi provinces (Kirundo, Mukenke, Buhiga and Nyabikire health districts).

The Nutrition Project Manager reports to the Health and Nutrition Program Coordinator based in Bujumbura. He/she will supervise a team composed of four health and nutrition supervisors, 16 case managers. He/she will work closely with the Base Manager of Kirundo and Karusi, the other project managers and the finance officer. He/she will collaborate with the administrative and health authorities at the provincial and health district levels.

Job Objective:

The manager will ensure the execution and management of activities in accordance with the established schedule and agreed strategies, and will ensure that the objectives are achieved on time through: i) project implementation, ii) human resources management, iii) involvement of project staff, beneficiary communities and other stakeholders in the planning, monitoring and execution of the project in accordance with organizational policies and procedures, the donor as well as the commitments of the Core Humanitarian Standards (CHS).

Responsibilities

Team management:

Manage your team effectively on a daily basis,

Establish regular performance plans and reviews based on clear and achievable objectives, discussed and validated with team members,

Ensure capacity building of team members, both at the practical level (e.g. planning, reporting) and at the technical level (e.g. approaches to be used in the field),

Provide interim coverage in the event of the absence of other project managers.

Project management and reporting:

Assess new needs/changes in context and adjust the project accordingly,

Coordinate and supervise teams in the field,

Facilitate communication between the different departments (programs, logistics, finance, etc.) in the intervention area on relevant aspects of the program,

Ensure that beneficiary targeting matches the criteria of the approved project proposal and is within the budget,

Ensure good budget management in line with the work plan and produce spending plans for quality implementation,

In coordination with the Program Coordinator, facilitate and maximize opportunities for synergy within the program and with other programs,

Identify and monitor opportunities to increase professional networks and relationships with NGOs, stakeholders and other civil society stakeholders in development, including the administration, at provincial and municipal levels,

Master nutrition approaches for communication for social and behavioral change (Care group, husbands’ schools), as well as other approaches for health promotion and increasing nutritional coverage (Family MUAC, Promotion of the consumption of bio-fortified foods),

Produce quality monthly and annual reports on time, as well as any other requested reports, and submit them to the Program Coordinator,

Facilitate collaboration and exchanges with other members of the team funded by Unicef ​​through KFW for good complementarity during the implementation of the project.

Participatory planning, monitoring and evaluation

Ensure that planning and monitoring and evaluation are carried out in accordance with the commitments of the Core Humanitarian Standards (CHS),

With the support of the monitoring and evaluation officer and the Program Coordinator, design and implement an effective monitoring and evaluation system that analyzes the progress of the project in relation to the objectives and the expected impact,

In collaboration with the project supervisors, prepare the annual and monthly work plan to be submitted to the Program Coordinator,

Support each Supervisor to develop and implement their individual work plan,

Lead participatory project planning and provide guidance during implementation while ensuring compliance with policies and procedures.

Administration, human resources and logistics

Ensure that supervisors have appropriate probationary objectives and develop the skills essential for project execution through the Performance Development and Review (PDR) system,

Conduct a staff capacity analysis and identify training needs and other capacity building opportunities.

Ordinary and financial management

Ensure proper budget management,

Track expenditure on activities as indicated in the approved budget, and alert in case of deviations,

Working with supervisors, use monthly expense reports to ensure project goods and services expenditures and support costs are maintained.

Other tasks to be performed

Perform any other tasks requested by the Program Coordinator, Program Director, Systems Director or Head of Mission,

Be familiar with and comply with the Code of Conduct, the Program Participant Protection Policy, the Anti-Fraud Policy, as well as the Core Humanitarian Standards (CHS) commitments,

Be compliant with the current security management plan.

Required skills and experience

Essential

University degree (BAC) in health sciences (human medicine, public health or similar),

Burundian nationality or work permit in Burundi,

Strong team management and coordination skills,

Experience in managing nutritional prevention and resilience projects,

Knowledge of project cycle management and budget management,

Good command of French and knowledge of English (asset),

Experience in participatory approach,

Proficiency in computer tools: Excel, Word, PowerPoint,

Leadership and human resources management skills,

Ability to work under pressure,

Excellent communication and writing skills.

Desirable

Experience in adult training and coaching,

Knowledge of SPSS, Epiinfo,

Experience in humanitarian program management
