JOB SUMMARY

The nurse will strive to contribute to the improvement of the general health status of the target population by providing quality health care (curative and preventive care). The incumbent of this position is expected to triage patients, ensure regular patient flow, provide clinical care, assist in patient referrals when necessary and provide health education and hygiene promotion. In addition, the nurse may be required to assist health personnel in other areas as required.

  1. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide clinical nursing services in accordance with internationally recognized standards.
  • Assist clinical physicians, and collaborate with midwives, laboratories, vaccination services and pharmacy in carrying out general tasks designated by the supervisor.
  • Manage triage, take vital signs and organize patients for consultation.
  • Carry out vaccinations for children and pregnant women.
  • Perform dressings, sutures of deep wounds, etc.
  • Provide nursing care to patients as per physician guidelines & instructions if working in an inpatient department and perform duties as per protocols.
  • Ensure proper data management by completing patient records, registers, tally sheets and reports.
  • Contribute to making laboratory and other tests available and accessible to patients.
  • Provide health education and hygiene promotion to patients based on their diagnosis and comorbidities, including diet, activity, hygiene and disease prevention (such as the need for vaccinations, suggesting lifestyle changes, etc.)
  • Assist in the physical examination of patients regarding sexual and reproductive health, particularly for a male health care provider, whenever requested.
  • Ensure that relevant patients, including children under five years of age, are screened for malnutrition or provide malnutrition control services if trained and assigned responsibilities by the supervisor.
  • Work with supervisor to provide didactic and on-the-job training to build capacity and improve the skills of other staff such as CHWs and Nursing Assistants.
  • Collaborate with other departments, as necessary, to ensure smooth implementation and integration of services.
  • Comply with administrative guidelines regarding work schedules, record keeping, patient communications, confidentiality, replenishment of essential medications, consumables and other medical supplies.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned including triage, intensive care, child protection focal point, distribution and/or data management as required.
  • Assist with the setup, maintenance and mobilization of clinical spaces as required.

  1. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Qualified nurse who has graduated from a government recognized nursing training institute and holds a valid practicing license or similar qualification required in the country for the position.
  • Previous experience in the same role will be an asset.
  • Previous experience within an NGO is preferred.
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Extremely flexible and able to cope with stressful and frustrating situations.
  • Ability to build relationships with staff and motivate them effectively.
  • Good decision-making skills
  • Must work independently in difficult conditions.
  • Be able to take on non-medical responsibilities from time to time to replace other team members.
  • Good reading and writing skills in English.
  • Proficiency in the national and local spoken language.
