OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST

In the framework of the Summit on the Transformation of Education held in September 2022 by the United Nations General Secretariat, the Alliance for Ecological Education ( see more in https://www.unesco.org/es/education-sustainable-development/greening-future), was launched, which aims to carry out a solid, coordinated and global action that prepares all students to acquire knowledge, the competencies, attitudes and values necessary to face climate change and promote sustainable development. To carry out its actions, 4 pillars of action are proposed, in the curricular field, of teacher training, of the capacities of educational systems and communities, ecological schools.

As a follow-up to the above, UNESCO is developing a guide with curricular guidelines to strengthen the integration and approach of ecological education, as well as preparing a document on quality standards for the development of ecological schools.

In order that both products can be enriched with perspectives of policy makers, teachers, students, school managers and other key actors in education in the countries, they intend to carry out consultation processes that allow reviewing and discussing their purposes, contents and possibilities of their contextual implementation. This review is being carried out in some countries in the world, among which is El Salvador.

In this sense, the UNESCO Multisectoral Regional Office in San José, with representation for Costa Rica, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama, will be organizing together with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology of El Salvador, four consultation processes – two for each of the mentioned products – that will take place in two phases. The first in September 2023, and the second between the months of January and March 2024.

Each of the consultation processes could consist of the implementation of up to a maximum of four consultation events with different actors, whose duration will be a minimum of 4 hours. on the same day, with a number of participants that can vary between 10 to 30 people, depending on the groups consulted. Consultations are expected to be face-to-face, although there may be an possibility that there will also be online processes. In summary, a maximum of up to 16 consultations is expected.

To carry out this process, the hiring of a consultant or consultant is required, under the supervision of the Education Sector of the San José Office, and in close coordination and collaboration with the aforementioned Ministry of Education, prepare the technical and logistical planning of the consultations, contribute to their implementation, support the facilitation and formulate the pertinent reports that will inform the documents that will be reviewed, discussed and validated.
