How can you make a difference?

As the COVID‐19 pandemic persists and the humanitarian crisis in Myanmar intensifies, there is an urgent need for the Myanmar Country Office (MCO) to amplify its public communications. This will highlight UNICEF’s efforts in addressing the needs of children in conflict‐stricken areas while also showcasing developmental programs designed to yield long‐term benefits for Myanmar’s children. To achieve this, UNICEF must create multi‐media external advocacy and communication materials that engage the public and demonstrate the challenges faced by children, the solutions, and UNICEF’s role in providing assistance. Consequently, a consistent supply of impactful and dynamic photos is essential to depict UNICEF’s developmental and humanitarian endeavours throughout Myanmar, as well as to bolster MCO’s resource mobilization efforts.

In light of these requirements, the Advocacy, Partnerships, and Communication Section is seeking experienced professional photographers to visit UNICEF’s developmental and humanitarian projects, including areas impacted by emergencies. The photographer will be responsible for capturing the conditions faced by children and UNICEF’s responsive actions.

The purpose of the assignment is to establish an SSA contract with 2 national photographers to provide visual documentation in digital original format of children and families in Myanmar in order to produce communication and advocacy materials to be used by UNICEF’s internal and external partners across various platforms. Scope of Work

a) Photographic documentation including photo-stories b) Descriptive captions for all broad edit photos, quotes from central characters/subjects in the photo coverage serving to tell a first-person narrative story; quotes from of a more personal nature from photo coverage characters/subjects directly addressing the camera with their gaze. c) Broad range edit of photographs (including photo films if required) with specifications including photo format, transmission, captioning, etc.,

Responsibilities

a) Consultant will use his/her own camera, laptop and internet access.

b) Photos should contain photo credit and full captions and should be able to be used by UNICEF free of rights.

c) The photos should have a pre-set tag in the meta data

d) On assignment completion, the broad edit will be transferred electronically to UNICEF APC Section, Khine Zar Mon, with complete captions.

Duty Station: Yangon /Home-based with travel to programme areas as required.

Report to: Communication Officer, Advocacy, Partnership and Communication section in Yangon

Duration of the Assignment: 11.5 months, part-time, flexible hours

Start Date: 1st June 2023

End Date: 15th May 2024

Number of Days (working):

1 June 2023 to 15 May 2024- consultancy paid at rate per day or half day based on agreed work assignments over a period of 11.5 months. This assignment will be a part-time assignment. The contract may be extended for another 11.5 months upon satisfactory completion of the initial SSA.

Description of Assignment:

Task 1: Travel to UNICEF supported programmes and emergency affected areas and capture high resolution, digital photographic images of UNICEF development and humanitarian programmes, for UNICEF Myanmar

Deliverable 1: Dynamic and powerful images for UNICEF Myanmar communication products captured on assignment to the field according to specific instructions for each trip

Task 2: Provide original photographs as a broad edit.

Deliverable 2: High quality images delivered within 5 days of the field trip

Task 3: Provide full captions for all images including date, place, programme and description of the image

Deliverable 3: Captions for all images delivered within 5 days of field travel

Task 4: Produce short photo/video films

Deliverable 4: Develop short video clips (1-5 minutes) from range of photos and interview videos with subtitles within 5 days of field travel or after receiving photos from UNICEF

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  •  At least Secondary Education is required supported by required years of relevant experience in photography
  •  Myanmar national, able to travel to the field at short notice
  •  At least 5 years of experience in professional photography and video production
  •  Proven knowledge and experience in using photography for development messaging.
  •  Experience of photography on development/humanitarian issues.
  •  Experience working with NGOs or UN agencies is an asset.
  •  Experience in child focused photography an advantage.
  •  Proficient English-speaking skills and at least basic English writing skills.
  •  Ability to work under pressure.

Selection process

Interested candidates are required to submit an online application with an updated CV, completed Expression of Interest form, and samples of their work. The consultant will be identified by circulating an advertisement for one week and thorough review of the applications received by UNICEF taking into account the candidate’s experience, samples of their translation work, and the rate of pay requested.

Payment Schedule:
