Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an independent international medical humanitarian organization providing assistance to people affected by armed conflicts, epidemics, natural or non-natural disasters, or persons excluded from access to health care. The organization has health projects in more than 70 countries. MSF France has had a significant presence in Kenya since 1996. In Mathare Lavender House Clinic, MSF runs a 24-hour SGBV Clinic for victims of sexual and gender-based violence and an emergency program that provides pre-hospital care and trauma/medical stabilization. We also have a clinic in Dandora offering youth-friendly services to those between the ages of 10 to 24 years. All our services are free including a toll-free hotline. MSF France Mathare project is looking to fill the position of a Mental Health Supervisor. The successful candidate reports to the Project Medical Referent. Objective of the Position: Participate in the planning, supervision and coordination of mental health/pycho-social related services in the programme in accordance with MSF standards in order to provide the most appropriate mental health support for patients. Responsibilities include but not limited to: • Participate in the planning, organization and coordination of Mental Health activities, in close collaboration with the Project Medical Referent and other medical team members, in order to ensure an efficient and effective implementation of the resources needed while maintaining high levels of quality care in Mental Health of MSF programs and activities. • Coordinates activities of counseling services with other relevant actors and liaises with the local counterparts (like MoH, WHO, ICRC and NGO) on mental health matters, including referral services. • Supervise the daily mental health activities and patient support according to MSF protocols and standards in order to provide the most appropriate support for clients with psychosocial needs • When needed, give psychological support to patients according to MSF protocols to improve mental health conditions of patients and enhance their functionality. • Offer clinical counselling and technical supervision to the mental health staffin collaboration with the Mental Health Activity Manager. • Assure and supervise the regularity of protocols and confidentiality of patient’s information in all clinics • Supervise, in close coordination with the HR department, the associated processes (recruitment, training/induction, evaluation, potential detection, development and communication) of the staff under his/her responsibility in order to ensure both the sizing and the amount of knowledge required. • To work with clinical officers and medical team on the diagnosis of psychological and psychiatric disorders and recommendation for referrals or prescription of psychotropic medications when necessary. • To work closely with the social worker in following up solutions for shelters, refugee referrals, etc., and to report difficult cases to the Project Medical Referent for advocating or direct intervention with partners. • Compile the data and statistic linked with mental health activities and report to the Mental Health activity manager. • Oversee the administrative processes associated with psychosocial functioning. • Planning and reporting of departmental activities towards addressing identified needs in the project and to strengthen the integration of mental health activities into the overall project. • Provide support and technical input to the Dandora Youth Friendly team for, basic counselling, health education/awareness sessions and other youth education activities. • Ensure the implementation of PFA by emergency room staff and training on non-pharmacological management of complex and severe patients before referral (communication, agitation, de-escalation techniques) Qualifications & Requirements: Education: Essential : Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Psychology. Desired: Master’s in Clinical Psychology . Experience: At least 4 years of experience providing direct clinical care in mental health settings. This experience should include demonstrated supervisory responsibilities. Experience in a humanitarian NGO is an added advantage. MSF experience is a plus. Demonstrable experience training others in a team setting. Languages: Essential local languages, Kiswahili and English Competencies/Skills: Adherence to MSF principles; Results and detail-oriented, service, team player, committed and flexible.
