Media and communication assistant At International Organization for Migration


Under the overall guidance of the Deputy Regional Director of the Regional Office for West and Central Africa (ROWCA) in Dakar, Senegal, and the direct supervision of the Regional Media and Communications Officer, the successful candidate will be responsible for implementing communications activities by providing day-to-day support to develop, edit, update and publish content on the various platforms of the Regional Office. Collaboration with other relevant units within the Regional Office may also be required.

Main functions / Responsibilities:

  • Develop a solid understanding of the mission of the IOM Regional Office for West and Central Africa and its engagement with WCA governments and other stakeholders;
  • Support the regional media and communications manager in the implementation of external and internal communications campaigns;
  • Upload and regularly update information and content on the IOM regional website for WCAs;
  • Support the production and dissemination of high-quality, creative and compelling communications and advocacy materials tailored to diverse audiences in accordance with IOM quality assurance and clearance procedures – learning notes, human interest stories, social media posts, donor snapshots, short videos, fact sheets, articles, etc.
  • Support the management of IOM ROWCA social media accounts;
  • Provide day-to-day technical support and media and communications advice to various missions in the WCA region;
  • Contribute to capacity building of IOM staff and partners in migration-related communications and media engagement, as well as support the development of guidelines and best practices for content creation, management and dissemination;
  • Carry out any other tasks that may be assigned to him.

Qualifications and experience required:

Education:

University degree in communications, journalism or other similar field from an accredited institution with at least three years of relevant work experience, or

Educational qualification with at least five years of relevant professional experience.

Mastery is an asset.

Experience and skills:

  • Experience in providing professional communications and advocacy support in a development context, within a multilateral or international organisation;
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Adobe Suite and/or other editing tools (Photoshop, Premier Pro, Canva, etc.) as well as strong computer skills, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.);
  • Strong writing and editing skills – in international journalism and/or public information/communication;
  • Strong knowledge of social media platforms and experience in social media outreach;

Translation:

  • Fluency in French is required. English is an advantage.
