Media and communication assistant At International Organization for Migration


Under the overall guidance of the Deputy Regional Director of the Regional Office for West and Central Africa (ROWCA) in Dakar, Senegal, and the direct supervision of the Regional Media and Communications Lead, the successful candidate will be responsible for implementing communication activities by providing day-to-day support to develop, edit, update, and publish content in the different platforms of the Regional Office. Collaboration with others relevant Units within the Regional Office may also be required.

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

  • Develop a strong understanding of IOM West and Central Africa Regional Office’s mission and its commitment with the WCA Governments and other stakeholders;
  • Support the Regional Media and Communication Lead in the implementation of external and internal communication campaigns;
  • Update and regular information and content on the IOM WCA regional website;
  • Support the production and dissemination of high-quality, creative and compelling communication and advocacy material, suitable for a variety of audiences in accordance with the’IOM quality assurance and’ authorization procedures –’learning notes, stories of HUMAN interest, social media publications, donor snapshots, short videos,’information sheets, articles, etc.
  • Support social media account management OIM ROWCA ;
  • Provide daily technical support and media and communications advice to the various missions in the WCA region;
  • Contribute to capacity building of staff and partners of’OIM in migration-related communication and’ media engagement, as well as support the development of guidelines and best practices for the creation, management and dissemination of content ;
  • S’s to perform any other tasks that may be entrusted to it.

Qualifications and experience required:

Education:

University degree in communications, journalism or any other similar field from’an accredited institution with at least three years of’ relevant work experience, or

’ studies degree with at least five years of’ relevant professional experience.

Master is an asset.

Experience and skills :

  • Experience in providing’ professional communication and advocacy support in a development context, to’a multilateral or international organization ;
  • Demonstrated mastery of the Adobe suite and/or’ other’-editing tools (Photoshop, Premier Pro, Canva, etc.) as well as solid computer knowledge, including mastery of various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) ;
  • Strong writing and editing skills – in international journalism and/or in public information/communications ;
  • Strong knowledge of social media platforms and experience in raising awareness of social media ;

Translation:

  • Mastery of French is required. L’anglais is an advantage.
