MADAGASCAR – Logistics Coordinator – M/F At The Chain of Hope

About Chain of Hope

La Chaîne de l’Espoir is an international NGO founded in 1994. Its mission is to strengthen health systems to give everyone, especially children, the same chances of survival and development. We operate in 28 countries through a global approach, focused on children but also on mothers and disadvantaged communities:

  • Prevention and screening from a very early age, particularly within the framework of school health programmes.
  • Care and surgery, to meet the most urgent needs of children and their mothers.
  • Training and skills transfer to local teams thanks to our international network of experts in all areas of surgery.
  • Construction and equipment of hospital structures adapted to local needs.

The Chain of Hope in Madagascar

The level of infant mortality in Madagascar is high with 40 deaths per 1,000 inhabitants. Among the causes of this mortality, congenital or acquired heart defects are estimated at 5 per 1,000 live births, or 3,600 new cases per year in Madagascar. Furthermore, nearly 82% of the population lives below the poverty line and public financial protection mechanisms for health are very limited and only cover a portion of the population.

Present in Madagascar since 2018, La Chaîne de l’Espoir is implementing a program to support the development of pediatric cardiac surgery, which is the only alternative for survival for many children suffering from heart disease. Its objective is to contribute to reducing the mortality rate of children under 18 with congenital or acquired heart defects.

Since April 2024, La Chaîne de l’Espoir has been implementing an integrated project for screening and developing pediatric cardiac surgery in the Indian Ocean. One of the major challenges of the project was to carry out the first open-heart surgeries in May 2024.
