< Under the general direction and supervision of the Assistant Security Advisor ( DSA ) or the Field Safety Coordination Officer ( FSCO ), the field security associate assists in the implementation of security operations and in all matters relating to the management of the safety and security of personnel of the United Nations in the region of assignment.>
Duties and Responsibilities
Assists the Assistant Security Advisor ( DSA ) and the Field Safety Coordination Agent ( FSCO ) in the collection, updating and communicating information regarding the security situation in the AoR:
- Liaises and coordinates, where appropriate, with host government security organizations and / or personnel, including national and local provincial authorities, the military and the police, as well as non-governmental organizations in the area of operation ;
- Help assess the security situation at the duty station and ensure adequate collection and verification of the security information that may be necessary for an appropriate analysis of the situation by the DSA / FSCO ;
- Communicate security information to the heads of United Nations agencies and provide host country security advice to the UNDSS in the absence of the DSA / FSCO, as required ;
- Maintain regular contact with the security focal points of United Nations agencies ;
May be invited to provide technical assistance during A / SMT meetings in the absence of the DSA / FSCO
3.2. Help maintain the security plan, including updating the personnel lists:
- Assistance in the preparation and review of the United Nations security plan ;
- Takes charge of actions during the implementation of the security plan, if necessary.
Support for the preparation and conduct of security plan exercises / tests.
3.3. Assists DSA / FSCO to monitor the implementation of security measures, as recommended in the security risk management process ( SRM ) for the AoR.
3.4. Assists and assists in the preparation of security incidents affecting United Nations personnel, offices and property, such as the security incident report, security assessments.
3.5. Provides support in the organization and conduct of training courses on safety awareness and preparedness and provides safety guidance to newly assigned staff members. Organize security briefings, if necessary.
3.6. Performs other safety-related tasks assigned by DSA / FSCO:
- Provides support in carrying out security assessments and provides advice on security measures for residences ( – Residential security measures – RSM ) of United Nations personnel, as well as on the latest trends and threats to the safety and security of personnel ;
- Establishes and maintains a system of guards and maintains information relating to United Nations offices and residences ;
- Provide support for the supervision of the ( security operations center, including advice to SOC assistants and ensure regular radio control ) ;
- Administer a pass and identification system;
Maintain liaison with commercial companies used for United Nations security in offices and residences to ensure the effective and efficient use of the guard force.
3.7. Provides general administrative assistance to DSA / FSCO:
- Maintains current and confidential correspondence files / documents ;
- Maintains a database of contact details with the security authorities of the host country ;
Organize appointments, receive visitors, pass and filter telephone calls and answer questions with discretion, and write minutes and / or notes during meetings.

Required Skills and Experience
Education:
- Secondary education is compulsory. A university degree will be duly considered, but it is not a requirement.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years ( with secondary school diploma ) or 2 years ( with the university degree ) of relevant experience at increasingly high levels of responsibility in the field of security, preferably in the military or police context or in a related field of work. Previous experience with the United Nations system or an international NGO is desirable.
Language Requirements:
- Mastering French is required and English is desirable.
Other Skills and Requirements:
- Knowledge of the operation of HF and VHF radios ;
- Security experience and diplomatic protection is considered an asset ;
- Knowledge of host country security codes ;
- Solid computer skills ( MS Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint );
- Possession of a valid driving license;
