Legal Intern: International Humanitarian Law, National and/or International Criminal Law, Forensic Law M/F At Doctors Without Borders


Médecins Sans Frontières, an international humanitarian medical association created in 1971, provides medical assistance to populations whose lives are threatened: mainly in the event of armed conflicts, but also epidemics, pandemics, natural disasters or exclusion from care. The French section is present in around thirty countries.

We are looking for a: Legal Intern in International Humanitarian Law, National and/or International Criminal Law, Medico-Legal M/F

Mission :

The MSF Legal Department provides legal advice and support to Médecins Sans Frontières teams both in the field and at headquarters.

Within the legal department, you will be attached to thematic poles 1 and 2.

Your main activities are, in support of humanitarian operations, and across the different jurisdictions where MSF activities are implemented:
(1) Various legal research in international humanitarian law as well as under different national legislations (medico-legal, sexual and reproductive health, patients’ rights and medical ethics, criminal law, state of emergency, etc.);

(2) Drafting of notes, tools and guidelines;
(3) Facilitating the organization of meetings and their follow-up (CR, follow-up of action points, etc.) within Units 1 and 2, as well as in interaction with other units of the department;

(4) Archiving of confidential forensic files.

Profile sought:

Training: PPI EFB internship / Holder of a Master 2 / Science Po Law School / Other equivalent profile.

Training sought : International humanitarian law, national and/or international criminal law, or health law.

Experience: Experience in an NGO, criminal litigation, law firm or legal department covering the themes of Units 1 or 2 would be an asset.

Skills and abilities: Editorial rigor, ability to problematize and synthesize; Interest in MSF’s humanitarian and associative activities; Open-mindedness, ability to adapt and work in a team.

Languages: Very good level of English (B2) and French (C2), particularly in writing (50% of work in English).

How to apply

Status: 6-month full-time internship from January 6, 2025 to June 27, 2025, based in Paris, Jaurès metro station. Mandatory internship agreement.

Conditions: The amount of the gratuity is between €4.35 and €7.70 gross per hour depending on the level of studies, for internships longer than one month.

1 meal voucher is awarded per day worked, with a face value of €11 (60% covered by Médecins Sans Frontières). 2 days of paid rest per month (for internships longer than one month). 50% coverage of public transport subscription (no coverage of train tickets for residents outside the Ile de France coming to work in Paris).
