The position is to be filled by January 1, 2025, with a contract duration of two years. Employment location will be Bonn or Berlin, Germany.
Welthungerhilfe’s (WHH) Humanitarian Directorate (HD) comprises the HD Operations Team and the HD Strategies Team. Our experts are working in different humanitarian sub-teams and programmes like emergency response, emergency operations and crises support, anticipatory humanitarian action, assessment & analysis for action, humanitarian localization, strategic prepositioning in humanitarian logistics. Our HD is supporting WHH’s commitment to the humanitarian paradigm shift on more anticipation and preparedness for less losses and better response. As Junior Expert Humanitarian Action, you will support the operational and strategic work of the HD to assist WHH’s programme countries and WHH partners in humanitarian action. After a 12-month stay in our Head Office in Bonn or Berlin Office, a 12-month stay abroad, preferably in an ongoing humanitarian programme or project in one of our WHH Country Offices, will follow.
Your responsibilities
- Support the operational implementation of emergency response measures, and the coordination and administrative management of the Emergency Response Team (ERT)
- Support the Emergency Crisis Group (ECG)
- Support the Assessment & Analysis for Action Team
- Support the programme management units of WHHs strategic humanitarian programmes in HD e.g. WAHAFA, ToGETHER, ESUPS, etc
- Support WHH’s humanitarian advocacy and contribute to the strengthening of international humanitarian policy
- Contribute to and further develop technical concepts of humanitarian action
- Assist in the preparation of regular updates on the status of implementation of HD projects and on the further development of humanitarian action capacities
- Support the preparation of project planning documents in consultation with the Humanitarian Director
- Assist in the search for institutional donors to finance humanitarian action projects
- Support emergency measures on-site within the scope of the second-year deployment abroad
Your profile
- A university or college degree with a completion of a graduate programme (e.g. NOHA/ SLE) relevant to the position is desirable
- Experience in the planning and implementation of emergency measures or relevant topics of humanitarian action
- International working experience, e.g. as part of an internship or previous work experience
- Strong competence in intercultural communication and teamwork
- High level of flexibility, adaptability as well as stress resilience
- Ability to work in difficult and volatile situations
- Readiness to receive necessary vaccinations for working in Welthungerhilfe’s project countries
- Very good command of spoken and written English; German and/or French language skills are an advantage
