Italy – Security Advisor At COOPI – International Cooperation


COOPI is looking for a Security Advisor for its Milan office

The Security Advisor is part of the COOPI International Activities Unit, operates at the Milan Headquarters and reports to the Management. It works remotely with the countries where the Foundation is present and can carry out missions abroad.

Main responsibilities and activities

The assignment includes:

  • Update of COOPI procedural and programmatic documents in the field of safety: regulations, operational plans, contingency plans, freezing, check lists;
  • Setting up and drafting of new policies, procedures, monitoring tools for specific aspects relating to the sector;
  • Review and update of country regulations in close relationship with the COOPI offices on site and abroad, and monitoring of their implementation;
  • Setting up of training modules to be provided – on site and from – on the correct use of the sector procedures;
  • Setting up training modules that can be used directly by security managers in countries (mission heads, security coordinators);
  • Selection, initial training and updating of the staff of foreign offices on the issues of risk prevention and safety management;
  • Develop and spread at all levels a culture on safety behaviors;
  • Support in identifying indicators and risk assessment criteria;
  • Remote support service, at the request of the country, for the verification and solution of specific situations;
  • Participation, where required, in committees and meetings both internal and external to the organization, on related issues, with the return, dissemination and updating of utility information;
  • Monitoring, control, training and assistance missions on specific cases;
  • Management of the emergency number of COOPI.

Profile sought

Essential requirements

  • University Training / Post University, preferably in the context inherent in International Cooperation completed by specific courses on the issues of safety prevention and management in the humanitarian field;
  • Experience of at least 5 years as a Security Advisor in an NGO or even in management roles in humanitarian crisis contexts, with specific positions in the field of prevention and safety at work;
  • Excellent knowledge of French and of the’English; good knowledge of the Spanish;
  • Ability to work in a complex international organization;
  • Knowledge of the typical contexts of humanitarian aid and of the main institutional actors in the sector;
  • Experience in countries with high risk factors;
  • Knowledge of international regulatory rules on the prevention of safety risks and of experiences developed in the sector by international organizations;
  • Capacity of collection, analysis, processing and synthesis of data inherent, in order of priority and relevance;
  • Ability to identify management solutions starting from specific and contextual elements;
  • Communication skills of the problems and solutions identified, with particular discernment and confidentiality, with respect to the various interlocutors at different levels;
  • Accuracy, attention to rules and details without losing sight of the context elements;
  • Correctness and technical rigor in the drafting of policies, procedures, regulations, written reporting; also in the different working languages (Italian, English, French);
  • Flexibility and speed in responding to priorities and urgencies.

Desirable requirements

  • Previous experience abroad in the field of humanitarian interventions;
  • Previous experience in coordination roles with COOPI abroad.
