Starting Salary Range: The salary range for this position is $67,200 – $79,800

The Department

The Information Technology (IT) department coordinates, facilitates, and supports the agency’s use of information and communications technology to achieve agency goals. We provide planning and technical assistance to Mercy Corps country programs and collaborate with HQ departments to implement and support the agency’s strategic initiatives. We work to strengthen the agency’s abilities to use Internet-based information services.

The Position

The IT Change Management & Communication Manager is responsible for coordinating and managing the change management and communication of Mercy Corps’ IT department’ portfolio of projects. This includes managing change activities arising from new and existing IT projects, changes in business systems and processes, or changes in technologies.

Projects examples are Mercy Corps’ transition from Google to Microsoft 365, OneTrust Phase 3 rollout, and Mercy Corps legacy Account Management system (MCAM) retirement.

Essential Responsibilities

CHANGE MANAGEMENT

  • Coordinate and manage all IT change management strategies, policies, procedures, and systems.
  • Perform cost analysis and obtain quotes for the use of consultants, vendors, and/or new technologies for the relevant change management needs for digital products, and projects.
  • Ensure change management projects objectives are met and managed to established timelines and budgets.
  • Ensure established success metrics are achieved for all projects.
  • Advise on training efforts by providing input, documenting requirements, and supporting the design and delivery of training programs.
  • Conduct impact analyses, assess change readiness, and identify key stakeholders to gauge organizational readiness for transitions.
  • Identify change risks and support implementation of risk mitigation strategies.
  • Identify and manage anticipated resistances to change.
  • Continue professional development to keep up to date with emerging technologies, methods, and best practices.

COMMUNICATIONS

  • Plan and implement effective communication plans to support IT projects.
  • Plan and implement comprehensive stakeholder engagement strategies.
  • Analyze project risks and identify mitigations tactics to inform communications strategy.

KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT

  • Act as change management champion and advocate of learning, process improvement, and best practices.
  • Drive cultural change, in alignment with organizational strategic goals, by applying change management processes and tools.

Reports Directly To: Senior Director, Information Technology

Works Directly With: Works closely with the IT department, senior level leaders, and executives, Mercy Corps global team members, external vendors, Mercy Corps Internal Communications, and others as needed.

Minimum Qualifications & Transferable Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 4+ years of professional experience as a change manager
  • Change Management certification(s) such as CCMP, PPROSCI, etc.
  • Experience with large-scale organizational change efforts
  • Familiarity with project management approaches, tools, and phases of the project lifecycle
  • Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal, including conflict resolution, negotiation, and demystify technology to team members with less digital literacy.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills
  • Strong executive engagement and team member collaboration skills and development through the change process.
  • Analytical mindset and critical thinking
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Team player & able to collaborate with others
  • Experience working with a breadth of types of change (i.e., technology, process, cultural, product)

Desirable Skills/Qualifications

  • Proficiency in M365, SharePoint, and Teams
  • Experience working at a Humanitarian organization or NGO `
  • Experience working with a large international organization

Success Factors

The IT Change Management & Communication Manager must be a proactive, process oriented, customer focused, multi-tasking individual with a proven track record in delivering effective change management and communications in support of organizational and departmental transformation and change. In addition, they should be able to translate technology to non-technical team members and combine creativity and a solution-oriented mindset.

Living Conditions / Environmental Conditions

The position is based in Portland, Oregon and may travel up to 10% of the time to areas with limited access to medical facilities and amenities. Mercy Corps team members represent the agency both during and outside work hours including when deployed in a field posting or on a visit to a field posting. Team members are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner and respect local laws, customs and Mercy Corps’ policies, procedures, and values at all times and in all in-country venues.
