Overview

All who are selected to participate in CFR’s Blavatnik Internship Program and Robina Franklin Williams Internship Program receive training in the field of foreign policy and international affairs as well as skills training in writing, research, program planning and much more.

The Council has a internship available in the Studies Department. The intern will report to a fellow in the studies department and will assist the fellow with research, writing, and editing. The intern will gain firsthand experience in working in the think tank community, analyzing geopolitical trends in the Middle East, as well as gaining knowledge and understanding of the Middle East politics and U.S. foreign policy in the region.

CFR internships are paid, require a 14- 18 hour commitment, and are filled on a rolling basis.

CFR’s fall internship program gives interns the opportunity to choose whether to work in our office in a hybrid capacity (half in the office, and half remote), or on an offsite fully remote basis.

The major responsibilities of this position will include (but are not limited to):

  •  Gathering research materials for fellows book project
  •  Retrieving materials from archival documents, press reports, journals and magazine articles, and social media commentary
  •  Assisting with monitoring developments in the Middle East and drafting memos on key issues
  •  Translating documents and news coverage
  •  Assisting in logistical support for meetings, including but not limited to preparing distribution materials
  •  Attending general Council meetings and other programs on foreign policy issues, as time permits

Qualifications

  •  Undergraduate or graduate student focusing on Middle Eastern studies, international relations, history, Arabic, or related field
  •  Students should have completed the equivalent of four semesters of college coursework (not including AP classes in high school) by the time they begin an internship
  •  Previous research experience and strong writing abilites
  •  Proficiency in Hebrew and/or Arabic preferred but not required
  •  Proficiency in MS Office, including Word and Excel

Pay Rate

$17.00 per hour
