Terms of Reference

UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is offering a full-time internship with the External Relations Unit at UNHCR Cox’s Bazar Sub-office, Bangladesh. Established in December 1950, UNHCR is a global organization dedicated to saving lives, protecting rights and building a better future for asylum seekers, refugees, returnees, internally displaced communities and stateless people. Every year, millions of men, women and children are forced to flee their homes to escape conflict and persecution. Title: Intern (External Relations) Duty Station: Cox’s Bazar Duration: 1 September 2023 to 29 February 2024 Contract Type: Internship

Organizational context The External Relations Unit is responsible for the planning and execution of visits by external stakeholders to Cox’s Bazar, including high-level donor missions. With the high volume of external missions, External Relations requires an intern to support the daily tasks, and mainly help cover the needs and preparations related to external missions.

The position External missions require considerable planning, including briefing kits and agendas, organizing logistics, as well as communications around the visit. For this reason, h/she would support with photography and videography, communications, preparation of briefing kits, and logistical planning. This position involves field visits to the refugee camps on a regular basis.

The incumbent will be supervised by the External Relations Officer. S/he should possess experience in photography, videography and editing skills, as well as strong writing and organization skills. S/he will be capable of multi-tasking and working to tight deadlines, in a fast-paced environment and as part of a team.

Understanding of English is essential. Also, as the incumbent will be working closely with refugees, knowledge of the Rohingya language would be considered an asset.

Duties and responsibilities \u2022 Support the production of communications materials related to external missions (photography and videography). \u2022 Support the planning and logistics of external missions to the field. \u2022 Support the preparation and organization of briefing kit documents. \u2022 Support the updates to and maintenance of excel databases.

Minimum qualifications required In order to be considered for an internship, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria: \u2022 Be either a recent graduate (having completed their studies within two years of applying) or a current student in a graduate/undergraduate school programme from a university or higher education facility accredited by IAU/UNESCO; and \u2022 Have advanced level in photo and video editing and production; \u2022 Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant or of interest to the work of UNHCR.

Desirable qualifications and skills \u2022 Organizational and logistical skills. \u2022 Strong English skills, in reading, writing, and speaking. \u2022 Communication skills, including experience with social media. \u2022 Research skills. \u2022 Computer and data literacy, including knowledge of Microsoft and Adobe programmes.

Conditions It is a full-time role with working hours starting from 8.00am to 5:00pm Sunday to Thursday (40 hours per week). The successful candidate will be assigned to support the team in Cox’s Bazar Bangladesh.

Allowance: Interns who do not receive financial support from an outside party will receive an allowance to partially help to cover the cost of food, local transportation and living expenses.
