See more information on www.unicri.org This position is located within UNICRI’s Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics in the Hague, the Netherlands. The internship is for an initial period of 2 months starting in September 2023, with an opportunity of an extension up to a total period of 6 months. The Internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work 5 days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the programme, project or unit to which they are assigned. Currently UNICRI has active Alternate Working Arrangements in place. This means that UNICRI personnel works in a hybrid modality, both from the premises and in telecommuting. In this context, applicants to this Internship position may be requested to undertake the internship also remotely in telecommuting. Applicants must be willing and prepared to undertake the internship remotely and must have all necessary arrangements and equipment (including a computer and internet connection) to perform assignments in teleworking.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Head of the Centre, the intern will assist in the implementation of the activities of UNICRI’s Centre for AI and Robotics, in particular building knowledge and understanding of the risks and benefits of AI and related emerging technologies from the perspective of crime, terrorism and other threats to security through awareness-raising, education and the exchange of information. Examples of duties to be performed by the intern may include: – Conduct research and provide analysis on issues pertaining to the work of the Centre. – Monitor local, regional and international sources for relevant trends, developments, policy developments, articles and news items. – Identify and map relevant communities of stakeholders of relevance to the work of the Centre. – Assist in drafting, preparing and reviewing project documentation, background notes, talking points, articles, presentations etc. – Support the organization of meetings and conferences, preparing agendas, taking notes and drafting follow-up reports. – Attend and prepare actions points steming from conference call and meetings with key partners and stakeholders. – Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education-Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements: a.Be enrolled oh have recently graduated a second university degree or equivalent, or higher (Master’s, PhD); b.Be enrolled in the final academic year or have recently graduated from a first level university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); -Have studied law, international affairs, international politics, criminology, cybersecurity, computer science, or artificial intelligence and machine learning or in a related field. -Be computer literate in standard software applications. -Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; -Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for this internship. On completion of their internship, interns are required to complete a substantive report on their assignments.
