Inclusion and Communication Assistant At Association of Volunteers for International Service


1. Context

AVSI Venezuela is a Venezuelan non-profit organization, created in 2022, to improve the living conditions of people in vulnerable situations. We are a local organization that has been operating in Venezuela since 2000 and linked to the international context through a partnership with the AVSI Foundation, a non-profit, non-governmental organization that supports 355 development cooperation projects in 42 countries, with headquarters in Italy and which promoted the creation of AVSI Venezuela.

The School Meals Programme and the Disability Inclusion Programme contribute to ensuring food security in pre-school, primary, mixed and special education centres. In addition, these programmes promote the inclusion of people with disabilities and strengthen the capacities of participants, improving access to and permanence in schools. AVSI implements both projects as a partner of the World Food Programme (WFP).

2. Object

With this announcement, AVSI Venezuela selects three (3) Inclusion and Communication Assistants, responsible for strengthening the capacities of the schools served through training and support during the program.

3. Description of functions

  • Participate in meetings convened by PMA concerning its role, including training.
  • Ensures that the consulting staff implementing the program are trained and qualified to carry out the activities assigned to them, ensuring performance in accordance with PMA standards.
  • Establish communication with school staff at each school.
  • Identify the main disabilities present in each institution.
  • Follow the instructions of the disability inclusion and communication supervisor, coordinate the implementation of adaptations that each school needs.
  • Direct the communication and nutrition roster in implementing awareness-raising during distributions.
  • Disseminate PMA messages and communication materials.
  • Ensure that the consulting staff roster remains motivated and up-to-date through training, monitoring and capacity building activities.
  • Assign and ensure that consulting staff have the SCOPE tablets corresponding to each distribution point, ensure their proper use and that they are in correct operation.

4. Key requirements and qualifications

  • Education: TSU or Lic. in Special Education, Communication, Education, Psychology or related fields.
  • Pedagogical training in disability inclusion.
  • Experience: minimum two (02) years of work experience, preferably in food programs, protection, social projects or community organizations such as grassroots organizations, neighborhood associations, etc. (must not be a political activist).
  • Food Hygienic Handling Course and Health Certificate (essential).

5. Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to lead training processes and group management.
  • Proactivity and empathy.
  • Respect for humanitarian principles.
  • Adaptability to the conditions and dynamics of field work.
  • Efficient handling of Microsoft Office® at an intermediate level.

6. Coordination of work

The Inclusion and Communication Assistant will report directly to the Communication and Nutrition Specialist and the Operations Coordinator, based on the guidelines issued by the LATEAM Regional Office, the AVSI Foundation Headquarters in Italy and the World Food Programme (WFP).

7. Type of contract

  • Temporary contract, to work specific days per month that will be communicated in advance.
  • Start date: October 1, 2024
  • Completion date: July 31, 2025.

8. Workplace

The work will be carried out in the AVSI Venezuela office in Yaracuy with trips to the municipalities of Manuel Monge and Bolívar, so residing in San Felipe or nearby cities is highly desirable. Knowledge of the territory will be valued.
