About Institute (UNU-Campus Computing Centre (C3))

The UNU Campus Computing Centre (C3) serves as the technology arm of the United Nations University, providing responsive, user-focused and cost-effective information and communications technology (ICT) solutions that assist UNU and its institutes in successfully achieving their respective missions. In fulfilling this responsibility, C3 is committed to guiding the University’s strategic technology direction and overseeing the coordination and support of ICT infrastructure, resources, and services in alignment with the University’s mission and goals.

Responsibilities

Under the overall supervision of the Chief, Information Technology, the ICT Endpoint & Services Engineer will perform the following duties: 1. Provision and support endpoints via MDM platforms:

  •  Prepare, test, and deploy configurations and applications to UNU managed endpoints
  •  Evaluate the effectiveness of configurations and identify efficiencies resulting from these evaluations
  •  Continue the standardization of endpoint management across the UNU

2. Provision of help desk support, focusing on the following tasks:

  •  Diagnose, debug, resolve and document end-user technical issues
  •  Systematically track issues, escalate accordingly, and follow up in a timely manner
  •  Contribute towards the reduction of helpdesk incidents by identifying recurring issues and their root causes

3. Provide onsite support to C3 operations, focusing on achievement of the following results:

  •  Assist in the provisioning and management of user accounts and end-user devices
  •  Coordinate with focal points on the management of user accounts
  •  Design, test and deploy device management policies in coordination with ICT focal points
  •  Maintain operations documentation
  •  Coach junior helpdesk personnel
  •  Provide onboarding orientations to UNU personnel

4. Provide support to ICT Initiatives, focusing on achievement of the following results

  •  Coordinate with colleagues while working on ICT projects
  •  Propose sustainable workflows and procedures to address recurring issues identified via helpdesk and implement approved automation procedures in coordination with the senior team/ software engineering team
  •  Assist in developing documentation to facilitate change management

5. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor

Qualifications

Education Certification

  •  Secondary Education with specialized certification in ICT OR Bachelor’s degree in ICT or other relevant field

Experience

  •  Secondary education with 4 years OR Bachelor’s degree with 2 years of experience in helpdesk support, some of which preferably in an international setting;
  •  Experience supporting of Windows systems (10, 11), macOS systems (11, 12), and multi-function printers, MS 365 services, MS Exchange Online, MS SharePoint Online, Azure Active Directory, computer hardware and software deployment and administration;
  •  Understanding and basic experience with IP networking;
  •  Professional knowledge of MS Intune, JAMF, Active Directory/Azure Active Directory, MDM platforms, PowerShell scripting, VMWare/virtualization environments;
  •  Professional experience with scripting languages for task automation;
  •  Other Desirable Skills: Initiative, strong conceptual abilities, sound judgment, drafting ability, resilience, flexibility

Language Requirements – Fluency in English is required;

– Competency in Japanese is desired;

– Knowledge of another UN official working language is an asset.

Remuneration

The successful candidate will be employed under an national PSA contract. UNU offers an attractive compensation package including an annual net salary (of/in the range of) JPY 4,324,000 – JPY 5,084,000, commensurate with the experience and qualifications of the candidate. Benefits include 30 days annual leave and a health insurance scheme.

JAPAN ONLY: PSA holders are required to enroll in Japan’s national social health care and pension insurance systems.

UNU is not liable for any taxes that may be levied on the remuneration you receive under this contract. Payment of any such taxes remains the sole responsibility of PSA holders. Duration of contract

The duration of the initial contract is 1 year. This is Personnel Service Agreement (PSA) contract with UNU, with the possibility for renewal subject to requirements and satisfactory work performance. The combined duration on a PSA contract with UNU may not exceed six (6) years. The mandatory age of retirement for PSA holders is 65 years. The incumbent for this position will work at UNU-Centre Tokyo, Japan.
