Global Coordinator for Social Safeguards in Conservation (gn) At Frankfurt Zoological Society


About the Position

Frankfurt Zoological Society (FZS) is seeking an experienced Global Coordinator for Social Safeguards in Conservation to join our headquarters in Frankfurt, Germany. In this role, you will support our field-based programs across Africa, South America, Asia, and Europe, ensuring that social safeguards are effectively integrated into our conservation efforts. This position offers a unique opportunity to shape socially responsible and sustainable practices while collaborating with a diverse network of practitioners, partners, and donor agencies.

Your Tasks

  • Develop and refine FZS’s social safeguard policies, ensuring they align with international standards and are tailored to local contexts.
  • Integrate social safeguards into conservation strategies and conduct regular risk assessments across field-based programs.
  • Design and deliver training programs to build the capacity of FZS staff, partners, and stakeholders in implementing social safeguard measures.
  • Foster relationships with practitioners in related organizations and work closely with donor agencies to ensure compliance and effective reporting.
  • Develp and refine tools and templates for Grievance Redress Mechanisms, Free, Prior, and Informed Consent, and Community Engagement Plans for field programs.
  • Oversee the monitoring and evaluation of social safeguard measures, ensuring they meet donor requirements and achieve intended outcomes.
  • Prepare detailed reports and support communications on social safeguard activities, outcomes, and challenges for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Work closely with donor agencies to promote streamlined reporting on social safeguard requirements.

Your Profile

  • Advanced degree in social sciences, anthropology, international development, environmental studies, or a related field.
  • Proven track record in developing and implementing social safeguard policies within conservation, international development, or a related sector.
  • At least 5 years of experience in social safeguard coordination, with a focus on multicultural and decentralized environments.
  • Strong understanding of social safeguard principles, international standards, and best practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with fluency in English; proficiency in German, Spanish, French, or another language relevant to FZS’s operational regions is an advantage.
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively to remote and field-based locations.
  • Passion for nature and conservation
