WORK CONTEXT

Cesvi has been working in Pakistan since 2005 while supporting the earthquake victims, floods-affected populations, conflict-affected IDPs, returnees, and host communities.

Cesvi has invested in development projects in remote regions in the country. In the emergency context, Cesvi developed expertise specifically in Health, WASH, Shelter & NFIs, Food Security & livelihood, and Disaster Preparedness and Risk Reduction (DRR) with protection, gender, and inclusion (PGI) as cross-cutting sectors.

CESVI has been working with different donors, such as ECHO, the EU, OFDA/USAID (now USAID-BHA), UNFAO, UNWFP, UNOCHA, UKAid/FCDO, Italian Cooperation, SDC, PIDSA, PHPF, and more. Since 2017, Cesvi Pakistan has been actively operating in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

In Sindh, Cesvi has executed multiple projects in districts like Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, and Tharparkar over the past decade, including flood relief and COVID-19 response efforts funded by ECHO in the last two years.

Currently, Cesvi Pakistan is implementing three projects funded by ECHO in Sindh, Balochistan, and Punjab.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Reporting To: Head of Program

1. Primary Roles:

  • Focusing on project management and technical quality assurance as per assigned responsibilities.
  • Managing a local NGO partner implemented a major long-term consortium project’s food security and livelihoods component. The project focuses on enhancing the climate resilience of vulnerable households in the province of KP district Charsada through an integrated approach encompassing Livelihood, Food Security, Agriculture, and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR).
  • Supervise and support the implementation of the activities and maintain partnerships through a gender-responsive and nutrition-sensitive lens while mainstreaming protection, accountability, and Do No Harm principles.
  • Coordinating between CESVI, consortium lead, consortium partners, implementing partners, and major government stakeholders on agriculture and livelihood-related interventions.
  • Ensuring smooth project implementation and donor compliance.
  • Providing the implementing partner with technical and managerial agriculture and food security support.
  • The position will be based in Islamabad or Peshawar and constant coordination with the Islamabad Country Office.

2. Key Responsibilities:

  • Climate Smart Agriculture
    • Implement strategies for crop improvements using Climate Smart Agriculture practices
    • Pilot and scale-up Climate Smart homestead vegetable gardening plots
  • Conservation Agriculture
    • Promote Conservation Agriculture Practices using the Farmer Field School (FFS) approach
    • Demonstrate climate-resilient crops, vegetables, fruits, and agroforestry methods
  • Innovation and Research
    • Collaborate with research institutes, academia, and FSCR&D to pilot local seed banks and hermetic storage technologies
    • Conduct policy research on Climate Smart Agriculture, Integrated Pest Management (IPM), and watershed management
  • Agroforestry and Water Management
    • Implement the Government’s Clean Green Pakistan agroforestry models (Miyawaki)
    • Manage watershed projects and pilot water conservation models, including Highly Efficient Irrigation Systems (HEIS) with private sector engagement
  • Eco-DRR and Nature-Based Solutions
    • Lead community-level Eco-DRR and nature-based Solutions aligned with COP 28 commitments
  • Economic Development and Livelihoods
    • Establish Business Hubs at union council and district levels
    • Identify and develop market-driven value chains for economic viability
    • Train women and landless men in market-oriented livelihood skills
    • Facilitate the placement of trainees with the private sector for hands-on experience as per the Graduation model
    • Create linkages for skilled women trainees with national and international markets through Local Social Enterprises (LSEs)
    • Promote Climate Resilient value chains for sustainable development

3. REQUIREMENTS

  • A degree in Agriculture, Environmental Science, or a related field
  • 7 to 8 years of experience implementing Climate Smart Agriculture and Conservation Agriculture practices
  • Knowledge of agroforestry, seed banking, and hermetic technology
  • Familiarity with watershed management and water conservation techniques
  • Experience with market analysis and value chain development, especially women’s economic empowerment
  • Proven ability to engage with the private sector and research institutions
  • Strong technical expertise in agriculture and food security interventions
  • Ability to manage projects with multiple stakeholders and adapt to changing scenarios
  • Excellent coordination and facilitation skills for training and capacity building
  • Proficiency in English, Urdu, and Pashto (preferably)

Contract Duration

18 months (extendable)

Monthly Salary

250,000 – 300,000 PKRs/month.
