Epicentre is an organization created by Doctors Without Borders (MSF) in 1986. We conduct field epidemiology, training and research activities for MSF interventions and in collaboration with partners. Our activities with populations in precarious situations are carried out from Uganda, Niger and France, on MSF and other programmes.

Epicentre is looking for an epidemiologist, to work in the Department of’Epidemiology of’Intervention and Training (DEIF). The position is directly related to the’epidemiologist responsible for the’study Urgepi. The overall objective of this study is to develop strategies for preventing and responding to measles outbreaks in the DRC and elsewhere. The epidemiologist will participate in the development of observational studies, their planning, operational implementation, and analysis of results. Such research may include retrospective statistical analysis of historical surveillance data, implementation of population surveys, mixed-method studies, etc, qualitative studies or seroprevalence studies.

In addition, the epidemiologist will play a leading role in scientific publications related to the research being implemented and in translating the research findings into direct operational recommendations for action by MSF against measles disease.

What you bring with you

Technical and operational skills : You will work with the study leader to design and implement research studies to answer operational research questions related to vaccination strategies against the measles.

You will be responsible for developing and revising study protocols and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) studies. You accompany in the first line the’field team in the’implementation of SOPs.

You will also work close to the field, in order to bring an operational support to the’studie. This involves active support to the’ operational team and field visits based on activities and needs, including support to the’organisation and monitoring of activities, including, or to recruitments made on site, with the support of the /the person in charge of the’studie.

In addition, you will be a force of proposal to contribute to the data management of the’study, monitoring and quality control of data, etc, through the management of the database,’ framing, support to the’encoding team and field data management.

You will contribute to scientific analyses, reports and publications (monitoring of routine analyses, design and implementation of scientific analyses).

You will also interact directly with MSF operational teams to translate research findings into operational recommendations.

Relational skills and a team spirit’ : you will be able to facilitate and organise the councils, meetings and committees in connection with the’study. We will value your excellent skills in preparation and animation of remote meetings (advice, support, interviews for field recruitment) and your ability to integrate a multidisciplinary, multinational team, highly motivated and competent.

A strong interest in collective activities and for the development of the’organisation : you have an appetite to deepen and share the principles of’actions concerning research conducted with vulnerable populations.

Training and experience :

  • You are a graduate (e) of’a Master, of’a University Diploma or of’a similar high-level certification in epidemiology. A PhD degree or equivalent is an asset.
  • You have excellent knowledge in epidemiological studies and operational research and a good command of the necessary computer tools and analytical software (Kobo, STATA, QGIS, R).
  • You have between 2 and 5 years of proven experience in field epidemiology and experience in project coordination, including the management of field teams,’, good knowledge of conducting operational research projects.
  • Prior experience with MSF and/or Epicentre, or with another international NGO (preferably in the health field) is an asset.
  • You have skills/experience in interacting with the Ministry of Health and other’ partners.
  • You have experience in writing reports and publications.
  • You are appreciated(e) for your capacities of’organization, management of research projects, and’analysis and also for your excellent capacities of written and oral communication. You have a proven ability to meet tight deadlines, prioritize needs, meet demanding standards and pay close attention to detail.
  • You have an excellent command of French at’oral and’, and a good level of’anglais (minimum B1/B2 at’oral and’).What we offer you

  • Fixed Term Contract Position from September 2024 to July 2026
  • The position is based in Paris with several trips abroad (mainly in the DRC) per year.
  • Postage taking : as soon as possible
  • Gross annual remuneration over 13 months of 54,090.64 €
  • 22 RTT days per year in proportion to the attendance time.
  • Titles restaurant d’a face value of 11,00 € (supported at 60% by Epicentre).
  • Complementary health 100% supported by Epicentre.
  • Support for 50% of the’public transport subscription.
