2. OBJECTIVE
- The overall objective of the mission is to support DCA audit activities in their application of the Core Humanitarian Standards (CHS) by providing high quality professional interpretation services to enable auditors to conduct their work (community interviews through focus group discussions) with community members in the Central African Republic (CAR) in an impartial manner.
3. SCOPE OF WORK
Under the direct direction and supervision of the auditors, the interpreter will undertake the following tasks and responsibilities:
- Carry out interpretation missions in target languages.
- Assist CHS listeners with consecutive or simultaneous interpretation as needed.
- Provide advice and guidance to listeners regarding effective language use and cultural guidance where appropriate.
- Ensure the accuracy of terms and terminology used in documents and discussions.
- During interviews and group discussions, translate listeners’ questions to participants as accurately and neutrally as possible.
- Translate everything that is said during interviews and discussions.
- Ensure an up-to-date schedule and coordinate in a timely manner with the audit team for any travel arrangements.
All information must be secure and confidentiality must be maintained at all times.
4. REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Experience in interpretation/translation in the region and knowledge of the humanitarian sector and Core Humanitarian Standards are particularly desirable.
- Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills in Sango and English.
- Willingness to cooperate with auditors to facilitate their work.
- Proven skills in translation and interpretation from Sango to English and vice versa.
5. INSTITUTIONAL PROVISIONS
- The interpreter will be contracted by DanChurchAid (DCA).
- The interpreter will report to the listeners. Initial instructions will be provided by the listener.
6. PAYMENT
- In accordance with local rates (per day).
