Organizational framework

The FAO Subregional Office for Mesoamerica has a high-level, multidisciplinary team, consolidating itself as the first point of contact of the countries of the subregion to provide technical assistance and accompaniment, and making available to you FAO’s experience and technical and political knowledge in food security and nutrition, family farming and development of inclusive food systems and natural resource management, risks and adaptation to climate change.

The countries where FAO SLM contributes are: Costa Rica, Cuba, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Haiti, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama and the Dominican Republic.

Hierarchical dependency

The specialist reports to the Chief Technical Officer and the Disaster Risk Management Expert.

Field of specialization

Under the direct supervision of Disaster Risk Management Expert of the SLM Emergency and Resilience program, and in coordination with the Regional Office Resilience team, and the network of focal points in the country offices, the specialist will have the following tasks / responsibilities:

  •  Support in the organization, execution and systematization of technical meetings.
  •  Support for the development of resource mobilization proposals
  •  Support in the conceptualization and development of events and publications
  •  Support in monitoring the execution of actions foreseen in the work plan
  •  Support in the preparation of briefings and presentations
  •  Propose systems and tools to improve team coordination
  •  Support project execution

Tasks and responsibilities

  •  Coordinate work meetings,
  •  Review project and program documents,
  •  Prepare reports on specific topics,
  •  Support the formulation of TORs,
  •  Support in data analysis for content generation
  •  Support in reporting and preparing working documents
  •  Support validation processes of technical sheets and comparative tables
  •  Support in the review of implementation strategies and agreements with local partners ( LOAs ) and project reports.
  •  Participate in seminars and workshops on relevant topics
  •  Monitor the implementation of projects in the field.
  •  Weekly minute of priorities and progress

THE CANDIDATES WILL BE EVALUED IN ARRANGE TO THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA:

Minimum requirements

  •  Relevant academic training in Economic or Social Sciences or Environmental Sciences or agronomy, or risk management, or geography.
  •  Work experience of at least 3 years in risk management projects preferably in the field of Food Security and livelihoods
  •  Practical knowledge of Spanish, French or English. Mastery of French would be desirable.

  •  Demonstrable experience in all phases of project cycle management;
