Education Development Trust is implementing a new FCDO-funded programme that will improve foundational learning skills for Kenyan children, including the most marginalized and Vulnerable children in the ASALs.

We are currently seeking a county coordinator to be based in Wajir to oversee the implementation of the project at the county level by supervising project field staff, supporting and monitoring partners and working with relevant government agencies. The role will provide project management, co-ordination and support for the effective and on time delivery of the INSPIRED project at each county. The role will provide high quality and effective stakeholder management with a wide range of stakeholders, including county government officials, schools, consortium partners, clients, suppliers, and consultants. They will ensure that the project components at each county are completed on time, within budget and scope and that the project objectives are met.

Job objectives:

  1. Responsible for overall project management including coordination and implementation of project activities in the county.
  2. Implement and maintain agreed project management and administrative procedures to ensure operations run efficiently and effectively
  3. Responsible for workplan management and planning at county level, tracking project progress; instituting early warning mechanisms against lag and implementation of corrective actions.
  4. Support in budget development and management, including tracking assigned budgets, and taking corrective actions on variances.
  5. Provide quality assurance of all project activities, reports and documentation prepared by respective field teams.
  6. Support and strengthen the capacity of coaches and field staff to implement appropriate approaches for project activities.
  7. Setting up and managing engagements with key stakeholders at the county level to ensure buy in of EDT’s methodology
  8. Liaise with county government and head teachers whose schools will be involved in the programme and establish partnerships to support implementation of the programme
  9. Work closely with school, child protection agencies and stakeholders to ensure all children in the project are safe and measures are taken to protect them against abuse and neglect.
  10. Develop and maintain excellent relationship with government, clients, schools, consortium partners and key stakeholders at county level.Person specification:KnowledgeEssential
  • Educated to first degree level in social sciences discipline,
  • Minimum of seven years’ relevant experience in non-profit organization
  • Good knowledge through training and hands on experience in project management
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Wajir and/or Mandera counties

  • Proven successful experience in project management role including preparation of delivery plans, risk and issues management; stakeholder management.
  • Budget development and management.
  • Planning and team performance management
  • Ability to use initiative demonstrating commitment and flexibility.
  • Ability to prioritise and deliver within tight timelines.
