About this job :

We are looking for a consultant ( a ) for climate change. As a consultant ( to ) on climate change, you will support all the tasks necessary to advance the climate change agenda, sustainability and biodiversity for the IDB Panama office and various government entities in the country. Specifically, the consultant ( a ) will support the specialist in the execution of a work plan focused on adaptation and resilience to climate change, and that it seeks to combine the IDB’s programmatic priorities in Panama with the fulfillment of the country’s climate commitments.

You will work in the Climate Change Division, which is part of the Sector Department of Climate Change and Sustainability. This team is responsible for supporting: ( i ) in mainstreaming climate change in the planning and execution of IDB group operations and ( ii ) in mainstreaming climate change in IDB group regional countries to through support to the ministries of environment, planning, and economy and finance of the region. Both axes share the objective of strengthening climate policy at the sub-national, national, and regional levels.

This is what you will do :

  •  Provide advice to the IDB office in Panama and Bank counterparts on operational and technical aspects related to climate change and sustainability.
  •  Contribute to the design of technical and loan cooperations in Panama to include mitigation and adaptation measures to climate change, calculate climate financing according to the joint methodology of the Multilateral Banks, among others.
  •  Support the execution of technical cooperations and components included in projects that incorporate themes related to climate change and sustainability.
  •  Support the organization of training activities, workshops, symposia, etc.
  •  Contribute to the preparation of communicational and analytical products related to issues of climate change and sustainability.
  •  Support the preparation of proposals to apply to concessional resources.
  •  Support reporting; systematize and monitor operations and actions of the IDB Panama Office focused on climate change and sustainability.
  •  Collaborate in other Bank initiatives to advance the climate change and sustainability agenda and promote it in Panama.
  •  Other conducive to advancing the agenda of climate change, sustainability and biodiversity for the IDB office in Panama.

This is what you need :

  • Education: Bachelor’s or equivalent in Engineering or Economics.
  • Experience: At least 2 years of relevant professional experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience in engineering, environmental science, international relations, or economics with preference in public policy analysis, and environmental policy, and / or climate change. Experience in disaster risk analysis and climate change is highly desirable.
  • Languages: English language proficiency and one of the Bank’s other official languages ( Spanish, French or Portuguese ) are required

Requirements :

  • Citizenship: You are a citizen of Panama or a citizen of one of our 48 member countries, with residence or legal permission to work in Panama.
  • Consanguinity: He has no family members ( up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including the spouse ) who work at the IDB, IDB Invest or IDB Lab.

  • Contract Type : Full-time national consultant.
  • Duration : 30 months
