About us: Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe e.V. is a German non-governmental organization dedicated to excellence in the field of first aid, the ambulance service, social service programs and other projects in the medical and social fields. The headquarters are in Berlin, Germany. Johanniter International Assistance (JIA) is the operational humanitarian aid unit. Its Global Strategy 2027 focuses on three programmatic areas of work: disaster response and preparedness, health and livelihoods, with climate change and gender equality as cross-cutting themes. Context

In Ecuador, Johanniter (JUH) has been registered as an international NGO since 2009, with a regional geographic scope. It has a second office in Bogotá and has developed projects in Bolivia and Nicaragua managed through partners. It implements projects mainly related to health, as well as livelihoods, always from a climate and environmental change perspective. Gender equality and the elimination of violence against women is an area of interest and a permanent focus on the work carried out by Johanniter in the region.

Since 2023, JUH has incorporated into its structure a regional office in charge of providing strategic direction, serving as financial and programmatic control, as well as providing technical assistance to country offices to guarantee programmatic quality and strengthen their role in the project cycle. Johanniter in Latin America does not have a communication strategy and therefore has not developed communication products.

What do we need

  • Johanniter Regional Office for Latin America is seeking the services of a qualified individual consultant/a to develop key communication products as a contribution to the positioning strategy in the region, as well as systematize relevant information for current strategic planning processes. The consultant will work in coordination with the Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean and with close interaction with the Regional Coordinator of PMEAL (planning, monitoring, evaluation, learning and accountability).

Key roles and responsibilities

  • Analyze the communication needs for Johanniter’s operations in Latin America.
  • Design and develop communication products adjusted to the situation and strategic vision of Johanniter in the region.
  • Coordinate and validate products with relevant team members. Evaluate information and data gaps relevant to efficient communication management. Propose a system to collect information, data and audiovisual products.
  • Compile relevant information on projects implemented by Johanniter’s offices in the region (according to: partner, donor, amount, duration, work theme, impact achieved, target population, area of intervention).
  • Update the list of active projects that are being implemented by the Johanniter offices in Ecuador and Colombia (according to: partner, donor, amount, duration, work theme, expected results, target population, intervention area).
  • Support the analysis developed by the Johanniter office for Latin America on programmatic methodologies.
  • Order and reorganize the electronic files of the Johanniter office in Ecuador and Colombia.
  • Perform support tasks in communication and information management as necessary.

Main results

  • Communication products agreed with the Regional Office and duly prepared and approved.
  • Development of a communication plan including a proposal for future products.
  • Systematization of present and past information on Johanniter’s work in the region.
  • Digital file development.
  • Specific contributions to the mapping of methodologies.
  • Specific contributions to the analysis of the situation in the region.

Profile and required skills

  • Bachelor of Social Communication, Journalism, Advertising, Marketing or the like.
  • At least 2 years of experience in developing communication strategies and products.
  • General knowledge about the humanitarian and development work of NGOs and international organizations. Specialized experience in the sector will be highly valued.
  • Ability to work independently and advance tasks as quickly as required.
  • Excellent writing ability, capable of producing high-quality written documents.
  • Mastery of the Spanish language, written and spoken, is essential. A good level of knowledge of the English language will be valued.
  • Management of Microsoft Office.
