Communications Officer, Climate Adaptation Program At Counterpart International


The Climate Adaptation Program is a five-year USAID-funded program that seeks to build long-term resilience to locally led climate change by promoting sustainable livelihoods and water security, which should result in significant environmental gains in the Dajabón hydrographic basin, beyond the province and in Haiti. Engaging communities, taking advantage of private financing and public resources, enable data-based decision-making and create diverse partnerships based on inclusion and market-based approaches, the Climate Adaptation Program will accelerate social outcomes, sustainable economic and environmental.

The Communications Officer is responsible for carrying out activities related to program communication and reporting. In this sense, it will provide technical assistance to the program in the implementation of communication strategies, content writing, production of audiovisual materials, organization and development of events and activities at national and local levels. In addition, the Communications Officer will work closely with the rest of the Collaboration, Learning and Adaptation (CLA) team to prepare reports or other documents. The Communications Officer position is in the Dominican Republic. This position will report to the CLA Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Draft and lead the implementation of a communication strategy to achieve the project’s priorities and objectives.
  • Lead all communication topics on the show.
  • Lead the execution of communication campaigns that can be developed within the framework of the program.
  • Ensure that all Project activities and materials comply with USAID’s approved brand strategy and brand plan, as well as USAID communications regulations and guidelines.
  • Lead the creation and management of internal and external communications (memoranda, newsletters, success stories, reports and others).
  • Write regular updates on the highlights, summaries, and other similar products of the program, to share with diverse audiences, including USAID.
  • Lead and manage the communicational aspects for the development of events (workshops, round tables, work sessions) organized by the program.
  • Participate in project planning sessions to be linked to all technical topics.
  • Lead the writing and reporting process, including establishing a timeline for collecting contributions.
  • Support in the development, design and review of program materials and materials prepared by subcontractors and partners.
  • Support program staff in requests for support in communication issues.
  • Provide administrative and / or technical support for the contracting of professional services and in the monitoring of communications contracts.
  • Support program partners and beneficiaries in their communication strategies, when necessary.
  • Maintain a collection of good quality photos and videos for use by the program.
  • Any other activity delegated by the CLA Manager related to the work in charge, for the fulfillment of the objectives and expected results.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Communication, Journalism or the like.
  • At least 5 years of experience in communications in the public or private sector and preferably in cooperation agencies.
  • Experience in the development and execution of communication strategies and in the preparation of documents and reports.
  • Experience in reviewing advertising campaigns, reviewing advertising or promotional documents.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills (written and verbal) in English and Spanish.
  • Use of computer tools related to the work to be done.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and work ethic.
  • Ability to work with multidisciplinary teams.

Preferable:

  • Master’s or complementary studies in areas related to the position.
  • Experience or knowledge in the integration of the gender and social inclusion approach.
